I usually fly Delta Song from Newark NJ airport to Orlando direct. I will be coming to WDW in November and have been checking airfare and to my horror  I find out that Delta Song has cancelled their direct flights to from newark to Orlando as of September 5.

How disappointing this is especially since they offered sattelite TV and it kept the kids occupied. Now I am scrounging for decent airfare not that Deltas was cheap. Looking at flying continental. Any suggestions, ideas or discounts available or any other airlines that fly direct.

Thanks

DH and I had booked two seats on Song for our Oct trip. Found out last week that all Song flights will be cancelled in Sept. We do not want the hassle of getting to LaGuardia or JFK, and we ONLY want non-stop direct flights from EWR - MCO. For our dates, our only other option was Continental. Our flight times are a bit later, and I will definitely miss the tv screens, but Continental was the only choice we had. USA3000 also flies out of EWR - they don't fly everyday, but that might be another option if the dates fit your schedule.

I am the same I don't want the hassle of flying out of JFK or Laguardia especially with kids.

I just realized that continental may not be so bad they give you more options on flying direct. I usually take the Delta 7:30 am flight but Now I am going to take Continental's 8:40pm flight a day earlier and that way I will have a fresh start in the morning. Plus the kids will sleep on the plane.

Hey Guys I had the same dilemma but I'm giving JFK a shot. No way am I paying those prices to fly out of Newark and Atlantic City (Spirit) has shot up by $100.00 R/T. So as recommended on this board we are flying Song out of JFK we got an 8:00AM flight and what were doing is staying at the JFK Airport Ramada which through parksleepfly.com it costs $149.00 for a room and week of parking with shuttle service. So we'll drive in around 8:00PM the night before and be ready to go in the morning. In the end were saving about $400.00 by doing this.

I feel your pain Disney Aunt. I just flew Song for the first time and had a great experience. I took a red eye out to Orlando and then an evening flight back to the west coast for my return. I was soooo looking forward to using Song again on my October trip. I started looking up flight info. again and it turns out that there is no red eye available. ::Sigh:: So, need to figure out what I'm going to do.

why is song canceling flights in September and changing other things? I booked my relative on a fight out of Boston on October 2nd and I don't want them to have an problems. Should we look int changing airlines now ?

Flying out of JFK and especially LaGuardia is NOT that big of a hassle, especially on weekends. I live in northern NJ and find it worth the while to do Song out of LGA. Price is ALWAYS at least $100 cheaper than Newark. I hate dealing with that Continental Terminal C in the morning. It is sooooooo crowded. If you cna fly on a weekend, try LGA or JFK. Not that bad. Price out a car service to drop you off if you don't want to drive. The extra cost will easily be outweighed by the money you will save on airfare.
Good Luck

They probably are not making money on the flights. Competion that lowers prices is good for the consumer but if the airline is losing money, sometimes it's not worth it for them.

If your relative is already booked on a flight, the only way you can change airlines with a full refund is if the booked airline changes or cancels the flight.

But the cost of hiring a car to take us to/from the airport would cost more than the $100! A cab to Newark is about $20 for us.

Sad, but true. There was a prior discussion titled Song out of EWR after Sept 6? A search will bring it up.

NCByrne.......
The $100 price difference is per person! if there are two of you, that will more than pay for a towncar. I have a family of four, and live in the Montclair area, and a ride to LGA costs us maybe $50 more than Newark. Shop around and you will see. The more people you have, the more you will save. I usually save $400-$500 compared to friends of ours that ONLY fly Continental, and ONLY will do Newark. :confused3

I am so fed up with airlines and airports that we decided to drive this year. Leaving in 16 days and hoping all goes well. Driving from CT alone with ds13. If everything goes well, we will be doing this every year.

I agree with RTJCBROWN.

I live in Northern Jersey, and have been flying out of Newark for years.

2 years ago discovered LGA. I save so.......much money, and it doesn't take that long to get there.

Rtjcbrown, which car service do you take, & are you going for NJ week in Nov?

Just checked my Song flight, & saw that it was canceled too. I am now leaving 3 hours earlier. I am much happier!!!!!

Coming home Nov 13th last flight out 8:30 pm has not changed.(as of yet)

Glad I read the reports, or I would have not know.

Hello Pat,
We usually use carriage house limosine (also known as peachway). We will not be going Jersey week yet. One more year till the oldest starts kindergarten, then we will be Jersey week regulars. How crowded does it really get?
For anyone worried about Song Airlines viability, keep in mind that they are expanding there service everywhere else. And as their parent company Delta is taking a beating, Song is getting more planes and will be servicing even more routes in the future. They are doing fine, as long as Delta doesn't sell them or suck the life out of them.
Most people who refuse to fly from LGA or JFK, have never tried flying from there.

I just don't like to fly out of LGA or JFK....Although JFK would be very convenient for me I have an aunt who lives 10 minutes from the airport and I could leave my care there. However.....I live 15-20 minutes from Newark Airport and usually have one of my employees drive us to the airport and pick us up. This is what I decided to do for my November trip....I will be leaving a day ealrier and taking Continentals 8:30 pm flight out of EWR. The kids won't miss any extra days of school and we will get a fresh start in the morning. I just like the convenience of using the EWR.

I just booked us a flight from Newark to MCO for September....$157 roundtrip on USA3000....I couldn't believe it. It's more than $100 less than Continental ($285)...

Try USA3000...only problem is 1 flight out of Newark on Saturday & they only fly on certain days.

We always fly out of JFk, since we come from overseas and I much prefer flying internationally into JFK than into Newark (our airline also flies there but I HATE newark airport).

The terminal that Song is in, is very nice (assuming they're where they were last summer). And our Song experience last summer was wonderful. We're looking forwards to flying them again next month out of JFK.

Song is only cancelling flights out of Newark. Boston service is absolutely central to their strategy. I expect one reason why they cancelled the Newark flights was pressure from codeshare partner Continental who has a major hub at EWR. I also suspect they weren't filling up like they wanted, since I kept finding availability via EWR when I was looking for connecting flights for my Aunt this spring. The change is inconvenient for our friends in NJ, but understandable from a business perpective.

So pyrxtc, don't worry. We have Song tix booked for October as well, plus another trip in February.

We have Song booked out of Boston in October as well. I know both flights departing and returning are totally booked so I doubt they will cancel those. When are you flying out?? We are leaving Oct. 1 and returning Oct. 8.

I can't believe I was not notified about Song cancelling direct flights from EWR! I called Delta to verify and they confirmed the cancellation. Since I booked through WDW travel I have to go through them to cancel everything. I called WDW air travel dept and I had to mail back my e-ticket receipts along with a letter explaining the situation :sad2: I have a bad feeling they will charge me a cancellation fee even though it's not my fault. They didn't really know what to do....I hope I can get refunded because I need to have a direct flight and cannot be on a connecting flight. Oh yeah, if they decide to refund me it will take 5-6 weeks!!! :guilty:
