We are flying on a very small Delta plane .. I have called Delta several times and can not get a straight answer.. For anyone that has flown these..
Do you know if you can take a carryone and a boarding bag as your personal item? I was planning on my DH, and both DS taking a medium sized boarding bag as there personal item. But will it be too big ?? I know they will most likely take the carryone bag and put it under the plane until we land.. but the boarding bag is like a large purse... If a women was taking it.. I would assume they would let them keep it.... Does anyone know???? Delta just keeps saying yes a personal item... but wont give me any size restrictions... they are a little bigger than a small back pack..

Your larger rollaboard type bag will be gate checked ("pink tagged" in Delta lingo) but you can take your smaller carry-on with you on the plane. I usually travel with a rolling briefcase and a large briefcase as my 2 carry-ons. I gate check my rolling bag and bring the large briefcase onboard. My large briefcase holds my laptop, several magazines, my Ipod and a bottle of water.

Hope that helps.

The overhead storage bins are small, so they will ask that any medium to large carryon be tagged and gate checked. If you walk out onto the tarmac to board, the bag is set next to the stairs, if you walk down a jetway, the bag is placed next to the door and the workers load them. You then pick it up as you leave the plane.. they are very quick about getting your bag to you.

In May, my dad was asked to gate check is rolling carry on. I had a small duffle bag and a laptop in a case. I did NOT have to check either and took them on the plane with me. I suggest a smaller carry on if you want to ensure it stays on the plane with you.

on the smaller planes any thing with wheels has to be gate checked and only small bags are allowed on,a back pack is about as big and if it is over stuffed they will probably ask you to check it. the overhead bins are only about half as deep. At Christmas almost everyone had to check their bags.

Just a clarification: These bins are intended for coats and hats only. They are so small that there are some tissue boxes that wouldn't fit in them. Your carry-on will go under the seat in front of you, and anything that doesn't fit there will be gate-checked.

We have flown them quite frequently, and they do check most bags for people. When you get to the doorway of the plane an attendant will tag your carry on with wheels if the attendant at the door has not done it already. The attendant will then stow your bag in the baggage section. When you depart the plane at your destination they will tell you to claim the bags right outside the plane door, and normally as you depart they will all be sitting there waiting for you, from what we have seen and done. Our experience is that if it is much larger than a purse or a lap top case they ask you to check it..... :sunny:

My small duffle (just big enough for some magazines, a few dvd's and my walkman) stowed up there just fine...It was maybe the size of a larger purse...BUT WAS NOT A PURSE! LOL

I just had to put my laptop under the seat in front of me..... which I do anyways....

Our flight is a week from today, on a small Delta plane as well (about 50 passengers). Will we have these same restrictions? We plan to each carry a carry on, not extremely large but bigger than the average purse, and a laptop in the case. My concern is that my husband and I are both diabetic, and I do not want to have our medical supplies out of my sight. I called Delta after reading this thread, and I was assured that the carry on sizes were the same regardless of the flight. What do you think? Should I be prepared to have problems?

:) allergies? or were you planning on watching a sad film?

I can't speak for Delta specifically, but we fly a small Saab prop-job out of my hometown to Minni (Northwest/Mesaba) all the time and I'm sure it's got about the same restrictions. We've been asked to check anything larger than a child's backpack every time. The overhead MIGHT hold a rolling carry-on, but then the five or 6 people around you wouldn't be able to fit anything. ;) Someone said it was really for coats and such and they were right, if the restrictions are at all the same.

For the person carrying medical supplies, just remember smaller is better. My DH's medical supplies go in their own small bag with nothing more than a paperback book, so that we don't have to shift them around if we are asked to check more bags than normal (which has happenedonce when we shared the plane with organ transplants, they needed the space a lot more than we did!)

I would have the medical supplies in their own little bag, just in case. You don't want to scramble to grab stuff at the last second if you are asked to gate check your carryons.

Have a great trip. The plane is small, but I enjoyed my flight on one. They have one flight attendant who does drinks just like normal. The take off and land quicker and get you there just like the big planes.

Enjoy.

I currently have our diabetic supplies in a gallon sized ziploc bag inside our carry on (we each have our own). So in the case they have us check this luggage, I guess we can pull that out.. though it won't be very discreet!

I wish I knew what my wife's problem is, but she always travels with a large box of Puffs Plus, and it is empty by the end of the trip.

Flew out of Boston to Baltimore on one of these delta planes in June had the average roll on luggage and a small tote took the luggage at the gate which was out on the runway at Logan we had to walk down stairs and outside to get on same landing had to wait for a few outside the plane for them to bring the luggage out only problem was the return trip into Boston in a downpour the gate checked luggage got left in the rain while there was a delay disembarking my thoughts are to just check luggage on these flights if your luggage does not take to rain well :)

Thank you all for your answers... I think our boarding bags will be ok size wise and they will just take our roll carryons and then give them back when we are off the plane... I just didnt want to have to Check a whole bunch of luggage... I am hopping to get away with 1 checked bag...

thanks again....
