I've been keeping an eye for fares for Presdents' Week from NYC for months now and the fares were extremely high - over $500pp - more typically $600. Even when there were brief sales, they were usually in the mid to high $200's and were usually from EWR and at BAD times (late going and early coming back), so I kept waiting and was prepared to cancel the trip if I couldn't get the fare I wanted.
Last night I was checking fares on Kayak and Orbitz and found $229 fares on Delta for 2/17-2/24/07 (2pm going & 6pm returning) which I confirmed on the Delta website directly!!! I was really excited because the fare was decent for the holiday week, it was for good flight times, and I would be able to use resort check-in for the return.
UNFORTUNATELY, there was apparently only ONE ticket left at that price because when I searched with 2 or 3 pax (which is what I needed) the fare jumped to over $500/pp. This happened on all 3 websites and the sale price did not extend to the days before or after. Well after 45 minutes of playing around to try to get 3 tickets at the sale price, I gave up and went to bed.
I checked again today and the Sat to Sat fares had jumped to $279 BUT the $229 was available for more days now. I snagged 3 tickets on the Delta site from JFK for $223.10 pp for a total of $669.30 for 2/17/07 (Sat) to 2/25/07 (Sun)!!! I had to stay one extra day - so I will be on the phone to DVC tomorrow to try to add or wait list that Sat night to my reservation.
So if you were waiting for decent fares at decent times to MCO from NYC, check out Delta.
