okay, this is our first time flying with Delta.
Looking for any advice, tips, suggestions, or concerns I should have. I really don't seem to see much on here about them.

Details: family of five, flying Boston(Logan) to Orlando(MCO) in November

TIA zarvgirl:)

If you have a delta american express card they will wave the bag check fee on the first bag. Also try to check in the day before online so things are a little faster at the airport.

Other than that it' a standard airline, hence not a lot of questions about it on here.

And if you don't check in online (not required with Delta, no real advantage except a bit of time savings), use curbside check-in. Arrive early - the Delta terminal is big/long... land side, then down stairs, across a long walkway, upstairs to airside, with escalators and moving walkways.

Keep an eye on your flights, in case Delta reschedules anything or changes your seats.

Another thing is it is a VERY good idea to check in ahead of time online. If you check in online, you can pay for your checked bags at that point and it is a little bit cheaper than if you pay for the checked bags at the airport.

In my experience, Delta will almost always change your flight info a few times before you fly. Sometimes you receive an itinerary update, sometimes you learn about the changes when you log on to Delta.com and check your itinerary. So be sure to double-check everything a few days beforehand. FWIW, our issue with this may be that we frequently travel with Delta right after the first of the year, but IME we've had nary a trip where this HASN'T occurred.

Second, +1 to the Gold or Platinum Delta Skymiles AmEx for waiving the baggage fees, but I think you might have had to make the ressie with them. Before you get the card for that purpose, check to be sure you'll be able to take advantage of that perk.

Also +1 to the curbside check-in if available! We always, ALWAYS use this if it is available at the airport we're traveling from, and it has always been a huge time saver. You walk in and look at the line for the ticket counter and thank your lucky stars you don't have to do that!

You don't have to make the reservation with the card. I've been getting a free bag on flights made with my corporate credit card. The credit card is linked to your Skymiles account. So any reservation with your skymiles number on it will qualify for 1 free bag per person on the reservation (up to 8 people). When you check-in, their system knows you have it, you don't have to show the card.

Thank you for setting me straight! I wonder if I was recalling the companion certificate as having to charge the tix to the card in order to do the BOGO deal. :confused3

At any rate, I think the free bags are a nice perk, and was really happy they did this! It's one of the few things that makes paying for that card worthwhile. I'd love to have a corporate card, but no such luck. :rotfl:
