Hi All,
I saw a news clip (I think Fox,but not sure)about Delta stocks going below $1 and then up to $1 before the close of business last week. There were rumors of them going bankrupt. Please say it isn't so. We have tickets (already bought) for next year and are very nervous-- :scared:
Does anyone have any light to shed on this???????????

Greatly appreciate any info.

TIA!!

I have tickets on Delta too for 2/25 to 3/4 to Orlando. I'm not too worried about the possibility of Delta going bankrupt. Even if they do file for bankruptcy it would most likely be Chapter 11 so they can reorganize. Other airlines have been in bankruptcy and are still flying. United is in bankruptcy right now and last year I flew US Air who was also in bankruptcy at the time. The only thing I am worried about right now is Delta consolidating or cutting flights and my times getting changed all around. They have already made one change but it worked in my favor giving me a later flight out of Orlando. I'll keep my fingers crossed for me and you both that are flights will be unaffected.

I too have tickets with delta for march and my DH and I are so scared we will lose them. We used our miles to get two tickets and paid for one. We will have have a real mess if they stop flying.

I totally agree. Even if Delta does file for bankruptcy, the likelihood that it will impact travelers, at this time, is slim or minimal. :paw:

I just bought Delta tickets yesterday - figures. ;)

But we've flown US Airways during bankruptcy and weren't affected at all, so I'm not going to panic just yet. I do think if they went out of business completely that would be a problem.

Well, you all made me feel alot better! Thanks!!! Let's hope that they will be A-OK!!!!

Yes, let's do that. Of course, if anyone hears anything that sounds the least bit ominous, please post it - I don't want to be caught off guard! ;)

I am in the same boat with northwest. Worst case scenario is they will cut some flights and consolidate, so they could affect your times that you travel. Neither airline is going to go out of business. I just want to get to orlando and home the days that I already have.

I agree. Just let me keep the days I have and if I have to fly earlier or later, so be it. But wouldn't it be fun if I could get there earlier and come home ALOT later! More WDW time for me!

In the real world, that won't happen. ;)

We just made it to get free tickets and was going to use them for our next trip. I wonder if they will stop that if they file bk. Seems like the trustee would put that on the top of the list of things to go.

Frequent Flyer tickets are very hard to get for almost any airline these days, especially to popular destinations. They are still available but slim pickings. You really need to jump on it when they first start booking (331 days for Delta?).

Please don't worry about this. United has been in reorganization for several years now, and their planes are still flying. They're even accepting frequent flyer miles to be used. The government would NEVER allow one of the big three US airline service providers to stop flying - that would be a lot of stranded passengers and/or an exceptional strain on the remaining airlines.

I also work at a company whose stock was below $1.00 for a year or so. Not fun - a lot of people lost their jobs - but we're back, focused and a lot more frugal.

We are in the same boat with you. We have tickets for early Jan. on Delta. DW is doing the marathon in WDW and will be flying down with kids on Wed. before the marathon. I will be flying down that Fri. before.

We had tickets with Midway shortly after 9/11 and they went bankrupt. The difference being was they were a much smaller company, even though govt. tried to help them out, they had trouble helping themselves. We ended up flying Delta and finally got refund from Midway.

I will keep fingers crossed for yall. Yall do the same for us :sunny:

I figure DL and NW will be in barnkruptcy before the end of October.

However, I keep flying and buying. As others have pointed out USAir is on its' SECOND bankruptcy and United has been in bankruptcy for OVER a year. With the impact of Katerina... I don't think ANY of the airlines are going to have a great quarter finanically. SW has good reserves so they should be fine...as to the others....

The average consumer does not appear to see a big shift if the airline goes into bankruptcy...

I totally agree. I fly weekly on DL and NWA but havent seen any changes other than their discontinuation of a true meal service in coach on cross-country flights. Bankruptcy won't affect the average consumer - they will still be flying just under legal protection from their creditors so they can do some restructuring of their debt.

I too was a little concerned over Delta bankruptcy rumors and I didn't hear them til after I bought tix in June for Sept. I did verify with my VISA card regarding what would happen if I couldn't fly on Delta and had to make other arrangements. Basically, I have 90 days from post date to dispute charges, even if I've already paid the bill. Whew! I return home exactly 88 days from tickets posting. So, for me, if anything happens to my flights at least I'll be able to recoup my $$$. Unfortunately this doesn't help those of you who's flights are more than 90 days out. I usually don't buy my tix that far in advance and I would recommend (in the future) that 90 days, or less, advance purchase is a good rule to follow.

10 days and counting!!!! :grouphug:

You are also protected by a Federal law requireing other airlines to honor your tickets on a standby basis for a minimal fee.

(Also, some CC companies are much better then the one you called. Diners for example says that if I buy TODAY for a flight next year and the airline doesn't honor the ticket they will give me my money back)
