Delta overbooked!

It's certainly usually the big planes, but I have been denied boarding on a larger plane (MD-88?) because of weight issues. Again, no one was deplaned, but they just stopped boarding at a certain point. It had to do with weather and having to use a shorter than normal runway. A little annoying, but the folks next to us who delibertely didn't board during thier zone were really ticked off. (I know many people do this, just figure why sit on the plane longer than they have to and just wait until close to the end to board.)

I guess it is unusual, and perhaps I've just been 'lucky,' but I'm not nearly as frequant a flier as some on here and I seem to have seen this weight issue happen a few times. Perhaps it's because I live in the northeast where weather is often an issue!

I'll be taken out by Homeland Security, in cuffs, if they try to pull me off the plane because someone else was not keen enough to reserve in advance and paid a fortune.
It's happened -- not just the pax eviction, but the being "taken out by Homeland Security, in cuffs, ..."

Don't worry - they typically let you go within a few hours.

The airlines need me as do YOU!!! Who do you think makes it possible for you to get the $288 fares, those of us paying a LOT more then cost.
It's not really a matter of who needs whom. Rather, it is a matter of who is more likely to change their flight arrangements for the next week to another airline, if they're bumped from a flight today. There is a strong positive correlation between how much you pay and how often you fly.

No, I disagree.. The airlines need passengers like me. They need those $1,000 fares. Otherwise they are going bankrupt giving the "el cheapo" fares the DIS wants. So my 1,000 fare is subsidizing the $50 each way the DIS wants. If you want those fares to continue and the airlines to keep flying you better hope business keeps wasting money on the walk up rate fares.

The airline doesn't want to bump my "full fare" ticket because I can and will walk to another airline and take that $1,000 out of thier revenue and deposit it with AirTran or AA or whomever. Loyalty is pretty much dead. If the $50 fare gets bumped they don't have that option. You can't just walk from Delta to AA with your $50 ticket and ask them to take you. Delta has to agree to write you over etc. With a full fare walk up that's not a problem. You can just refund ticket one and buy ticket two, no big deal. My coworkers and I do it a lot. If one airline is having a bad day, then we get on another one.

I have flown many times on AA...Airtran...SW...and of course Delta.

The only airline I have ever had a major issue with was Delta. I am a person whom has flown many times but they continously caused me grief. They cancelled flights....overbooked every single flight of their last ones I flew and even went so far as to split myself up from my kids years ago on an Orlando vacation when they were 9 and 6. I sat in the dead center of an L1011 while my kids were 14 rows up on the left side. Delta could have cared less...after that I have never booked them again and that was 2001. I have since flown many times on other carriers and never had these type of issues.

I feel bad for the OP. I know some folks find Delta acceptable....I would personally rather walk from Ohio to Orlando then book one of their flights again.

I hope your flights get straightened out and you have a great trip!!
Esmerelda...:)

Our flights are intact for now, but I continually monitor our flight status. Not only do I have our flights to watch, but DDBF is coming with us on different itineraries. He is on the same flight down, but different flight home, so I am watching his too! It will be an interesting 2 and 1/2 months, to say the least!

We are flying Delta out of BOS in August. Our flight is on 17th at 6:30 PM, there have been two time changes. We don't have seat assignments now. I was thinking of calling to see if I can get some. I really wouldn't mind flying out earlier that day, but this was the least expensive.

Flight home on 24th has only been changed once. This one is 11:30, wouldn't mind a later, I would even change to departing the next day.

I am checking on my flights once a week.

My whole trip was based on the fact that school would start the next week. Now that it isn't I don't care about the dates. Some fool at the Department of Ed decided that school would start after Labor Day this year so they could schedule MCAS at the beginning of June. :confused3

Delta called me about an overbooked flight we had this past March. He stated that the flight was overbooked and asked if we would switch flights. When I asked about compensation he offered a $150 voucher for each of the five of us.

I happened to know that there was an acceptable flight out of JFK vs our LGA flight. I only agreed to switch if he could get us five seats together, which he did. Unfortunately I need to go to a Delta office to use the vouchers, that is the only drawback.
