This is what the website states: If you cancel your flight, the value of your ticket will be returned in the form of an eCredit, which you can apply to your next flight.

You will need to change or cancel the flight prior to departure.

Assuming the ticket was purchased in 2021, you would have until 12/31/2022 to use the e-credit. Delta’s policy can be found here:
