Delta in flight WiFi

Does anyone have experience with Delta's in flight WiFi? Good? Bad? Decent speed?

Can I purchase one pass for me and my family to share? Only one device at a time, of course. For example, can I check my email on my phone, log off, and then my son can log on the wifi using his device?

No concrete experiences, but it's likely a per-device purchase. No sharing.

Someone might chime in and correct me, though.

In the past, I have purchased wifi on Delta. I logged in with my phone, logged off, then logged in with my iPad. Wifi was fine for checking email, but too slow to stream Netflix.

My understanding is that wifi on airlines doesn't have the bandwidth to allow for streaming.

Some of Delta's airplanes do have "high" speed internet that allows for streaming, though not all yet. It is one device at a time but you login via your GoGo login so you can move it to multiple devices as long as you stick to one at at time. It is cheaper to buy it ahead of time if you know you want it. Delta also offers free inflight messaging through the WiFi (iMessage, WhattsApp, and I have found Snapchat as well as Samsung Messaging to work, but YMMV on that). Depending on the aircraft streaming will work, otherwise you're limited to the content on Delta Studio, which is actually pretty plentiful.

Most of the Delta flights I used to take were short duration, so it didn't pay off to buy their wifi.

I did buy it once for one longer flight, and I was able to video chat with my family using Yahoo Messenger. I did it just so that my kids could have a neat experience. I used my headphones to hear them, and responded with the text feature. I didn't have any problems with the video chat using their service.

I bought it in advance for my flight from California to Atlanta Sunday.... and the wifi was out on the plane. So now I have a day pass with no plans to take a flight long enough to need it!

Seconding this. I’ve had a few recent Delta flights with the “high” speed option. You’ll be given a choice - regular or high speed, and of course it comes with a higher cost.

Have not personally streamed anything with it, but general browsing, e-mail attachments, etc load pretty quickly. It’s not crazy fast, but pretty decent.

Of course, Go-Go is prone to going in/out on any flight. It mostly works fine but you’ll occasionally get a flight where it’s consistently painfully slow.

If you put it on the survey Delta will probably send you (though I didn't get one for my most recent flight which is odd) a refund or extra SkyMiles or both. You could also use the Contact Us feature on Delta's website. The last flight I took in 2017 the guy in front of me was having a bit of a meltdown about the WiFi not working and he appeared to have a monthly subscription so the FA grabbed her PDA and he got like 5k miles for it. Of course after she did that it suddenly "wasn't a big deal".
