Delta has no non-stop flights anymore

We booked our trip in January and booked Delta for the non-stop service, we've had layovers on our previous trips and decided not to do that again. We changed our original date of Dec 1-8 to Aug 30 - Sept 6, reason 1: the free dining plan, reason 2: this is when we have gone in the past and like this time of year, besides my DH didn't want to wait "forever" to go back, duh.

We changed our flights with Delta, they had changed our original flight from non-stop to a layover flight, phew, this one for August was again a non-stop flight.

This morning I noticed on the Disney.com, under our reservation, our flight info was showing: Departure city:XXX...still...hmm. Went online with Delta and yes, again, it had changed to a layover in Atlanta. Now I did get upset, they whole reason for us booking these flights with Delta was for the non-stop flight (Southwest Airlines didn't show anything that far out as January)

I had my DH call them up, for me I would have said not so nice things and he has another way of speaking to them, a "nicer" way.

Anyways, we were told they had stopped doing the non-stop flights, but never in both incidents emailed, mailed a letter or called us, which I find un-acceptable. We DID get our full refund :woohoo: and I just rebooked our flights with Southwest Airlines, who does have non-stop flights and were showing for our date now & we get in @ 10.30am instead of noon.

Phew what a Saturday morning :rolleyes1

Sorry if long post, maybe others have booked Delta as non-stop flights and should check in on that!!!

Oh, and the new flights were cheaper then with Delta, internet special $89 one-way, total was 590 with fees, Delta is refunding our $622... :sunny:

I need more coffee :surfweb:

My dad is retired from Delta and I just do not like the airline. We were just discussing that if Delta didn't start making MORE instead of less non-stop flights, they were going to go under with the likes of Southwest, Frontier, etc.

Makes perfect sense that the "ever-so-brilliant" minds @ Delta yet again did something that will make the airline less desirable!

I still get to fly basically for free on Delta (pay small fee & taxes) and pay full fare on Ted or Southwest.

Glad you were able to get a refund, I would've been ticked if I were you too!

I have one for Aug.... what do you mean "anymore" ??? as in sold out or ???

and they change you non-stop to stop???? Can they just do that?

Oh that would make me nutts!! Delta is just not gonna make it?

Southwest went under? They are about the only airline making money.

I believe Delta is still in bankruptcy. I'm not sure what city you were flying out of, but if they don't have enough people filling the flights, it only makes sense to cut them and funnel them through the hub. What also can happen if an airline comes in like Southwest with lower fares, they may decide they can't compete and just cut the flights.

I as looking at flights this morning for next May and they had some non-stops listed, just not at a time I could go.

The flight we originally booked was listed as non-stop, that's why we booked it. Last trip we had a 3 hour layover in Chicago :rolleyes1, didn't want this repeated.

Southwest has non-stop flights to Orlando from Kansas City (where we fly out from), they only show flights for so many months out though, we did try to book with them at first.

I think I'm more disappointed that no-one emailed the changes that had been made.

I understand that they need to fill planes etc, I have been a frequent flyer, even though only international I understand how they do this. If they would have let us know we would have asked for a refund sooner, and if I hadn't used the "intuition", noticed that our DME was listed as unknown airport...I had to find it out and fix this.

I tried to PM you but it says your mailbox is full, check your reservation at delta.com and see if they changed your flights.

That's how I found out they had changed ours!

cnids00---we are flying out of KCI too but we are flying Midwest non-stop to Orlando in October. I think this is a great carrier....2 across seating very comfortable. Just FYI in the future if you are looking at just non-stops. Hope you have fun!! :cool1:

Ahh, never looked at Midwest...thanks! I've only heard about Southwest non-stop, I stumbled upon Delta when I was searching different airlines on-line way back in January.

A manager at work always use Southwest when flying back home to Florida, guess that might be why I had that in my head :)

In the past few months, Delta has really pulled out of Orlando. I don't know the exact numbers, but Delta used to hold the most amount of gates. Now, that title belongs to Southwest.

I'm not sure they have to notify you; they just have to get you from point A to point B as promised in the contract (aka ticket). Yes, it's aggravating that they didn't e-mail you, but maybe they'd have let you know closer to departure, once they're absolutely sure of the itinerary (which is, obviously, subject to change). Realistically, no airline can reasonably be expected to be aware of the reason a passenger books a specific flight.

We had originally booked non-stop flights on Delta from Kansas City too for our trip later this month (gosh it sounds good to say that!). they switched both of our flights to ones with connections and layovers. This was unacceptable to us as we are traveling with another family whose son is in a wheelchair and must be carried on to the plane. We were trying to find the easiest route possible. I called and Delta gave us a refund as well and we rebooked on Midwest. (We also gained an extra two hours at WDW!)

I agree, from a fleet management stand point, Delta was a major player in the large Florida destinations (Orlando, Tampa, Ft Lauderdale/Miami, Ft Myers) and often flew large (Boeing 767's) into those destinations JAMMED PACKED with people. Now, it seems they have started serving those destinations with smaller aircraft (Boeing 737's, MD-88's) and have really cut back daily flights from ATL to MCO, down to around 5 or 6 a day. Intresting move on their part. They have however become a much larger player in the Carribbean and Mexico, where they have begun daily nonstops to many exotic destinations, giving American Airlines some competition at those destinations...

I was referring to Delta going under DUE TO the likes of Southwest, sorry for the confusion.

Thanks! it was full I cleaned it. I started a new post about changes... yes they changed mine 3 times, but only 5 min time change... but still they didnt notify me AND my seats were not re-assigned online! If they change me to stops, I will freak on them!

This is sort of off topic but its something I just noticed yesterday on my insurance policy I purchased for my upcoming trip to Disney here in 12 days.

There is a section "travel supplier restrictions".... I go to it to read it and it states "Travelex Insurance Services and their underwriters are not providing Bankruptcy/Default protection for the following suppliers:" there is a list of about 30 airlines but the 3 common domestic ones were Delta, Midway, and Northwest.....

I never even knew this was on there...good thing I read the entire trip policy. We are flying USAir so it didn't pertain to us....but its still important info that folks need to know.

I saw that too on mine. None of them cover an airline that goes under... meaning if your cancelled for that reason, but they still cover the ins policy for Delta if it is cancelled for the reason on the policy... weather ect.
Does that make sense?

This is really irrelevant if you purchase tickets with a credit card. If the airline stops flying, you will either be accomodated by another airline or you will be protected by your credit card company and will get a refund.

flight is still a go from Kanas City on JUly 31. My non-stop flight coming home was changed to a connection.
