I'm hoping that there is more to this story. I would HATE to think that ANY human being could stand by and watch something like that. Even another passenger. What is this world coming to?

I think there's more to the story. I don't believe they "made" her do it. The wheelchair pushers in the airport are not employed by the airlines.

One problem is that most of the airline's own employees are not covered by health or company or liability insurance if they intentionally touch another passenger (or another passenger's baggage) and cause injury or get injured.

But if the handicapped person misses a connection while others make that connection I feel that the proper thing to do is call it an ordinary missed connection not due to force majeure (such as weather). Regardless of how failure of outside contractors such as wheelchair companies to show up is classified.

Maybe I'm guilty of callousness too since once I suggested that if someone did choose to crawl onto the plane, he has the right to and is not obligated to hustle at the risk of tearing his pants.
