Delta child seat question??

I just had the a painful conversation with someone from Delta.

I noticed on Delta's web site that you can check a child seat and they don't count it in your checked bag allowance. My concern is that I have two seats and when I put them in the tote (together)the lenght, width, and height comes to 75". The allowance is 62" for checked bags.

So I called to see if this would be an issue since the car seats won't count. I got someone named "Alice" on the phone who's first language is not English. I could not understand her and she could not understand me. I was very patient and understanding as my parents are from another country. After 20 minutes of explaining and re-explaining I got frustrated, said thank you and hung up. I called back and got someone named "Ray" who sounded like Alice's brother...that conversation was less than 60 seconds.

Sorry for the rant but does any one know the answer to my car seat question?

Thanks to all who reply.

I would put them in two separate bags, or no bags. Then there will not be ANY issue with oversized items.

Do you have seats for the kids on the plane? If the carseats are FAA approved, why not use them on board? My kids have always traveled better in their seats, and that way you won't have to worry about the baggage allowance or about your seats being lost or damaged on route.

Exactly what I was going to say!

If you are set on checking them then I would print out the information from the website and pack them in two separate bags. This way you have your bases covered as far as checking them free and meeting the size restriction. Better safe than sorry.

However, having seen the way airlines handle luggage I personally would never check a carseat through as luggage.

We always brought them with us and either used them onboard, (until the kids were 3ish) or gate checked them. Gate checking them is only slightly better than checking them through but things are supposed to be placed on top and handled more gently.

I know its a pain to take the seats through security and to the gate but if you plan it out it isn't that bad. I did it a few times with 2 dd's as the solo adult

Either way - Good luck!
