Not too long ago there was a post about Song changing seating assignments after regular schedule changes. We all know this is pretty much status quo for all the airlines. That's why you need to keep track of your reservations.

Well, during the time change/schedule change, Delta switched our equipment thereby changing our seat assignments from row 12 to row 32 and over the wings. My husband is white knuckles all the way and his only request is that he not be on or behind the wings--he can't take the "sounds" that come with those seats. (He's easily bugged by sounds--but that's another story! ;) )

He e-mailed Delta and asked that they change the seats (we couldn't do it online because it showed all seats full). Delta e-mailed back that it would not change them--sort of a terse little note, too. Coincidental to the e-mail, he sent a letter to Delta in Atlanta. Atlanta called today (some 3 weeks later) and advised they moved our family to row 22 which is the 2nd row in economy on this flight! Husband couldn't be happier!

Delta has always come through for us and I just wanted to share that information.

Glad to hear that Delta came thru for you.
Are you flying on SONG? If so row 22 is not the 2nd row of coach.
I fly Delta a lot and I don't think row 22 is the 2nd row of coach in any of the aircraft. What type of aircraft is it??

We don't have Song--it's a 767 out of CVG. The agent that telephoned indicated that the seating chart shows that seating behind the bulkhead begins at row 20. The chart on the website shows 2 seats in a row 18 and 6 in row 19, but he said that was inaccurate for the equipment. The original equipment was the 2-3-2 set-up (I forget what aircraft type that is) and it began at row 10. According to the seat chart on the website we are well ahead of the wings and just behind the bulkhead. I'll have to trust the information the agent gave I guess.

You have been given bad information. Delta flys a domestic configured 767-300 on the CVG-MCO route. Row 22 doesn't even exist on the domestic configured 767-300. You are basically sitting in never neverland. Row 22 does exist on 767-300 international configuration, but that isn't what you are flying. Even if it were the international config Row 22 is directly over the wing behind the exit row.

My bad--I typed 767 (that was the original equipment). The new equipment is a 757, I believe. I checked your link and that config does show just as was indicated to me. Sorry for the confusion. Only problem I see is that these seats are just in front of the wings. Our other seats were just at the back of the wings, row 32. I'm hoping the noise factor will be less in front than on or behind.

Thanks for calling my attention to my error.

Delta has two non stops to MCO from CVG. One is a 767-300 and one is a 757. Just make sure you know what you ar getting if you have issues with being behind the wing.

Make sure your husband is prepared for some noise during takeoff and landing and such. It appears that you are on the leading edge of the wing so you will hear the noise when the slats are extracted as well as when the gear go up and down. You may also have some engine noise as well as you are sitting directly across from it in that position.. Also bear in mind that rows 21&22 on Deltas 757s do not have a window there. Maybe that is a plus?

To be honest with you the seats toward the very rear of a 757 are fairly quiet from what I recall. Since the engines are located on the wings the sound is below and away from you in flight. The back of the plane tends to be louder on planes with engines located in the rear like 727s and DC-9s or MD80s..

Based on the seat chart there are not many rows in front of the wing. All the other poster have given you the pros and cons of the seats.
I am with your husband I don't want to hear plane noises, but remind him that they are good noises, means the plane is working properly. Have a safe trip.

We are fairly seasoned travelers and the lack of a window is a bit bothersome to the rest of us--we enjoy looking out, watching the wing movement, and sights below. No matter how many times we fly, it doesn't seem to get much less stressful for my husband. He is getting better about exhibiting outward signs of his distres--that is a good thing! I'll pass on your words of wisdom dvcguy--it's a nice reminder for him.

Thanks again for the advice.
