Has anyone flown with this car seat - it is smaller than our recaro but now I'm stressing it won't fit into the seat.

If the carseat (child restraint system) has a tag that says it is FAA approved then it will fit. The FAA sets the guidelines that airlines have to abide by and car seat manufacturers follow if their product is going to be approved for use on commercial aircraft in the USA.

Here is the link to the FAA website that will show you an example of what the tag on your carseat should say. http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/crs/

Per the FAA Website:
Make sure your CRS is government approved and has "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft" printed on it. Otherwise, you may be asked to check the CRS as baggage.

Best Wishes.

It definitely says "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft" which is why I didn't think much about it - but just wondering b.c most of the seats I look at online - britax, recaro etc all show widths of 19-20 inches - but the seats say they are 17 inches - which is the only reason I just want to double check since we leave tomorrow.

We've used our Comfort Sport a few times... once with Delta, JetBlue and SW. No problems on any flight. We also have a Britax Decathalon which is really wide, but I did see someone with one on SW 2 weeks ago and they didn't have any issues either.

Thank you I can stop worrying about it now. I just had visions about it not fitting. Do you have to put the arm rests up or can they (or do they have have to be) down?

We put the armrest up... easier for me being right next to him. Oh and he has to go next to the window. Have your DH go in first and get it buckled in while you wait outside with your little one. Then you can board when everyone else has gone before you. Makes it a little less congested with carry-ons and stuff. Have a great trip!

Thank you I wasn't sure if we were allowed to leave them up as on past flights the attendants usually say you have to put them down on take off and landing

We always needed to keep the armrest up when flying with our Evenflo Bolero (aka Generations) seat, which is like 18-19" wide, and no one has ever told us the armrest had to be down. We have flown on Delta, as well as other carriers. I don't think you should worry about it. :goodvibes
