Has anyone used there Amex Gold to get their first bag free?? what is the procedure? Can you check in online not select a bag, and then just bring your bag to the counter when you get to the airport? what have you found that works.

I've always checked in online, and it is easy as pie. The site knows you have the card, so the right thing happens.

Thats great to hear that it works that easily. We just applied for one(and we got approved) so now were waiting for the card to come.

The only thing I was disappointed with is that I was told since DH is the primary holder(he added me to the account) that I would have to fly with him in order to get the checked baggage free. Is that true?

As I understand it, it is. If you expect to fly separately often, it might be worth applying for a card in your own name.

From Delta's website:

Get a free checked bag on every Delta flight — that's up to $50 in savings on a round-trip

Benefit is limited to Basic Cardmembers (not Additional Cardmembers) with Gold, Platinum, and Reserve Delta SkyMiles Credit Cards and passengers traveling in the reservation containing the Basic Cardmember's SkyMiles number (up to a maximum of nine waivers). First checked bag fee waiver offered only on Delta and Delta Connection carrier flight segments. Waiver does not apply to overweight or oversized bags. Offer subject to terms, conditions and restrictions. See MyCardCan.com for details.

I just got mine in the mail yesterday, used it for the first time today.

We just flew to Florida, actually we are here now. We checked in online and when we clicked on one bag, it came up as free. Super easy! My sister then got to the airport and decided to check another bag (one for her kid) and they said no problem and that was free as well.

I asked this same question in another thread about DELTA.

Did anyone have any trouble with RAC to get the free checked in bag for having the DELTA AMERICAN EXPRESS GOLD CARD, or they know how to handle this process? I intend to do online checkin before the morning I drop off the bags to RAC. I haven't used DELTA since this new perk came out, so I am assuming I will see ZERO checked bag fee, when I check in online. I suspect RAC will be able to pull up this same information, is there a reference number they need.

Or does it work without any problems or questions from RAC?

I actually called DELTA to find out if my American Express DETLA GOLD card is the same GOLD card they show on their site, as the one's on their site are a solid GOLD Card, but I guess they have other ones with half clear, and half blue with a gold stripe down them that still haven't been replaced till they expire. Delta did say that they know you are a GOLD card member, and that when I check in online, the Baggage Screen will show ZERO dollars for the first checked baggage.

Thanks for any advice.

Another question - do you and the people you are flying with all have to be on the same reservation for them to check their bag for free as well?

I got the card but haven't flown yet. They sent me 4 passes to the Delta Sky Club as well - I thought that was a nice surprise.

I few Delta short after this program started. I'd already gotten my tickets under my FF miles. When I check in, the site came up with the 1st bags free for my party.

Had experience with this in June. Everyone getting free bags must be on the SAME RESERVATION with the cardholder. Those travelling with you don't count unless you booked them all together with the card holder. Also to use RAC just show up at the counter and it will show no fee needed. We thought we would be smart and check in online to make sure no baggage fee and ended up having to take the luggage to the airport to check in as once you check in online it locks RAC from being able to access your ressie...

Thank you for that information, I do not want to have to drag my checked in luggage to the airport. I was going to do both the online checkin and RAC, but now I will just do the RAC.

I wonder how many people don't know that online check-in will ruin their chances to use RAC?

Thanks, Phil

I had to show the RAC employee my card, but it worked just fine this past July.

So, as long as you are Delta American Express Cardholder, your first checked bag is free? I am traveling to Orlando in December on Delta. I am not currently a Delta AMEX cardholder, but could apply for the card. Would this allow me (and my travel companion on the same reservation) to check our first bag for free? Obviously, the tickets were not purchased with that card.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, you just have to be a cardholder (Gold or above); you don't have to buy the tickets with that card.

Yes. I've used tickets purchased with my corporate card and got the first bag free.

Check their home page for the link to apply:

Note that the fee is only free for the first year ($95 after).
