Delta Airlines??

Looking around for flights for our trip next year - and the prices for Delta airlines are quite reasonable from Manchester. Anyone any experience of flying with them??

We have flown with Delta many times and will again this summer from Manchester. They planes are usually 767's from Manchester and that is what we are on this time. Unfortunatley that means no seat back TV's but the service on board is excellent. We did one year manage to fly on the 777 from Manchester but that seems to have been a one off. We change at Atlanta and clear customs then it is less than an hour flight down to Orlando.

I have flown the Delta MAN-ATL-MCO route a few times.

The last time was on a MD11. Wide bodied, similar to the 767, but fairly old. No seat back tvs etc. Actually, I thought the standard of service was much better than Virgin.

Also, the transfer at Atlanta was terrible. Very slow through customs, but that hasn't been the case previously.

I heard that they operate a 777 out of manchester now? I assume this has better In Flight Entertainment?

I would fly with Delta again if the price were right. I love the convenience of Virgin (being direct), but their standards have plummeted and their much vaunted IFE seems to suffer from many, many faults.

Best deals seem to be found with Delta or BMI.

I've flown Delta a number of times, IMHO they are a perfectly adiquate American carrier. Nothing major to complain or compliment them on and I'd be quite happy to use them again if they were the best price.

Flew Delta back from Atlanta last year and (sorry) I thought they were terrible.

The aircraft looked like something out of a 1970s disaster movie, it was so old, i half expected to see nuns with guitars appear and Leslie Nielsen to pop out of the flight deck.

No seat back TVs, and the main tvs at the front of each section were knackered to the point of being unwatchable. The movie was awful (Daredevil!) and was only visible through the red, green and blue stripes flashing across the screen. You have to pay extra for all alcoholic drinks, and the crew are even more ancient than the aircraft (though perfectly nice).

The only entertaining thing was their in-flight shopping catalogue, which was hilarious, and full of QVC-style things nobody would ever need, but someone has taken the trouble to invent.

In short, the flights were dreadful, but if you ever need a translucent polythene cat carrier on wheels (with tartan trim) or a revolving electronic tie selector, you know where to go.
