We have flown Delta many times in the past but not in 5-10 years, How is it these days. Would you trust the schedule you book or should I really plan on my flight changeing between now and Spet?

If they change the flight and it does not work for us do we still have to pay the change fee to another flight?

How have your recent expereinces been?

Thanks Dave

I used to fly Delta/Song exclusively. When they got rid of Song, I moved over to JetBlue. I loved Song, and was really upset when they stopped flying. But I also didn't care for having to check on my flights on a daily basis. If I booked at the 331 day window, in order to get a great fare, I knew I would have at least 4-5 changes before I actually flew. Yes, I was usually able to get my original seats back. But there were a few times I had a flight cancelled from under me. One flight was close to full, so when they cancelled it, and put us on another flight that was 1/2 full, I wondered where everyone was going to sit!! I was able to change to a much better flight, time-wise for me.
But, the change has to be over 3 hrs before they will refund your money. Would I still fly Delta? Sure, if I had to. Now, I'm getting used to just waiting for JB and SW to come out with their fares.

Hey Goofy4tink

Thanks we have chatted before here, We love Jet Blue right now the flight down for them is at $150 each from Logan in Sept, I don't know if I should just wait them out and see if it drops, book Delta and take my chances or book Jet BLue and if it drops take the credit and plan a trip next year. I think we need to try Southwest We are only an easy 35-40 minutes to Manchester and about 1 and 20 from Logan.

Thanks again Dave

We just flew Delta out of JFK. We had no problems with the flights. There were man, many changes to the flights and seats. If you book Delta, just check the flights weekly (or daily if you are obsessive like me).

ITA!! We just flew with our first ever American carrier which was Delta out of Boston. We had a wonderful experience. :)

We booked very very early but after reading these boards I soon learned to check my flight status on a regular basis. Our departing flight time changed quite a bit, as did our seats but only within an hour or so. Our flight home remained the same. Customer service was wonderful each time I had to call and rebook our seats. They were very easy to get along with.

We definitely will choose Delta next year for our trip. :thumbsup2

We flew Delta last year and have reservations on them again this year. Last year our flight changed several times, but never by a lot and in fact I think it ended up right back where it started, but it was nervewracking. After that I said I was done with Delta.

Well I changed my mind when I found a good fare for this year. I booked it knowing that I was going to have to watch my flights constantly. But it was about $100 cheaper per ticket than Jet Blue, Airtan, and Southwest. We have 5 people flying. I'll put up with a bit of inconvenience to save $500. The flight has been changed once so far - about an hour earlier on each end. I liked it better before but its still Ok and if these flight times had been there when I was first booking it wouldn't have stopped me from booking Delta. I think Delta is fine but you just have to know what you're getting into.

So how do you check your fight status? Do you just go through like you are booking a ticket to see if your flight is there or is there another way that I am missing?

Way back when, I don't remember Delta doing that, that is what has me concerned, the flight we would take if it became 1 hour earlier it would pose a problem due to my DW having to work a half a day.

Thank Dave

After you buy a ticket you will get a confirmation number. You go to the website, click on "check Itinerary", type in your name and confirmation number and your info will come up. If it has changed, it will show the change and list your seats as "Unassigned". The you have to call Delta and get them reassigned.

What day of the week are you traveling? We're flying both ways on a Sunday in August and we're getting killed with the fares. Good luck in your search.

You are flying on the most expensive day of the week during the summer - that is why your fares are so high. Any chance you can fly Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays instead?

I'm elite with Delta and fly them almost exclusively. I have found that their customer service is top notch most of the time (every airline has their off days).

Sign up on their website for their Weekly Fare Specials - I have gotten some really cheap last minute fares for weekends up to NYC and down to MCO in the past. :thumbsup2

We are flying on Friday 28th and that is the 6:30 am flight $150 each before all the fee's if we could go on Thursday the early flight is still $99 but my DW has a new job so that is not possible (not complaining she is happy in her new job that is worht anything in my book)

Thanks Dave

Delta is OK in my book...I agree with everyone on the "they will change your flights" mantra...but the other thing I have noticed that in JFK on early am (7-8)flights these are turn around red eye(new flight crew) and frequently prone to delays due to delayed incoming flights(usually due to weather)-they can't get the plane turned around in time. So be sure to check weather to the west the night before and be ready to wait.
