Dell - I should have known better!

Hey, You're scaring me! We just bought a dell, it was delivered two days ago (incredibly fast shipping for us but it was a desktop, not a laptop so that is probably the difference). Now I'm hoping I never have any problems so I don't have to call tech support, lol.
 
I think you're misunderstanding Keli: Their tech support is bad, but is better than everyone else's, except for a very small group of companies that charge a LOT more for their computers.
 
I paid quite a bit at one time for a Compaq too and it was horrible. Price does not always equal quality.

I did buy a lower cost, "on-sale" Dell directly from Dell itself. I don't care if is was a $1.00, it shouldn't have shown up with a corrupt motherboard. I wanted to send it back but DH didn't and we've had intermittent problems ever since. I'm fortunate that my brother, who worked for Dell, helps me with a lot of my issues. The Geek Squad is cool too albeit a bit expensive.

I do suspect that a lot of it is just plain luck. I liked my HP and hate this Dell and don't even get me started on Compaq or IBM. ;)
 
I love my Dell laptop. I used to be a GATEWAY man, but they have run into serious quality problems because of cheap parts. My last gateway tower went through 3 power supplies, a hard drive, 2 cd burners, and a motherboard in 3 years! And no, i don't live in a lightening prone area and we don't have bum electrical service.

My Gateway laptop has a 2 hard drives and needed the display light replaced twice. That too was in a 3 year period.

My dell laptop is going on 3 years and not a bit of trouble.

I didn't buy a cheap dell whatsoever. I still ended up with a POS. I got the 3 year warranty, I believe the longest at the time and I used that puppy more then I used the computer. I have paid for out of warranty service on the dumb thing and then it broke again 2 weeks later same problem. They had to fix it again for free. Then the thing crashed and we had to restore it ourselves. I have a great credit line and great interest rate programs with Dell but I won't ever use them again for a computer. I know there are some success stories but when things go wrong, they go really wrong. They have the worst tech support I have ever dealt with bar none.
 
What other mass market computer distributors have you worked with? I'd love to find one that has better tech support than Dell, that doesn't charge three times as much!
