My SIL takes about 10 books for a 2 week holiday. While for us an iPad is the perfect choice it was not hers in this situation.
Because the kindle was not in stock she got a Sony e-reader for a birthday present.
She is very happy with it :)

I have the new Amazon Kindle WIFI version and it's fantastic :)

Very easy to use and read - even in full sun. Very well made and very small and light.
It can hold up to 3500 books so plenty of scope for your holiday reading LOL

Books can be bought straight from your Amazon account from the Kindle via WIFI or via 3G if you have that version.
E-book costs vary depending on how old the book is etc.. Don't think I have paid more than £3 for a book so far.
There are also loads of free books available (mainly classics that are out of copyright).
It also reads PDF files.

Like Reid, I love reading books on my iPad!
I hadn't read a book I bought ages ago, but got it for my iPad and had finished it in days :lmao:

:goodvibes

i'm also thinking of getting one.we have just returned from turkey & i read 8 hardbacks,in the fortnight.they all cost £9.99 from asda,so not far off,the price of a kindle, also the weight of them,in the luggage, were quite heavy.
typing this,i have decided to buy one.i am off to take a look:)

Wifi only means that you would have to be in a wifi hotspot to pick up a signal to get online to purchase books - so at home or in Starbucks for example. 3G runs on a mobile phone network, so wherever in the world you are, you are likely to pick up a signal to be able to purchase books - say for example you were sat on a beach, you could get onto the Amazon website to order a new book.

I have the Kindle 3G and it has exceeded my expectations! It is reasonable in price, but what sold it for me was that the cost of books is a lot lower than other e-readers. Some people argue that you are tied to Amazon as they use a different file format for their books, but if the books are that much cheaper (usually £3 something or less), I am happy to be tied in. Also many of the classics are entirely free, or you can buy the complete works of Shakespeare for less than 80p.

It's a perfect gadget for holiday, and because it is not backlit, you can read it in full sun with no problem at all. I would highly recommend it :goodvibes

thanks,i just ordered the wi-fi one,but after your explanation,i need to phone amazon up & change it,for the 3g one,as that sounds more practical.
thanks for explaining

My daughter has had one for a few weeks as she is an avid book reader on the move and she really likes it.
