I applied for the CP when I was a sophomore, and I got really close to going. I paid my fee and everything. A few weeks before I was scheduled to leave, I backed out of it and decided to stay home and go to school instead. I just couldn't justify taking a semester off at the time.

Two years later, I'm about to graduate, I've been reaccepted into the CP, and I'm actually going this time. I think waiting was the right thing for me, but I'm glad I didn't decide not to do it entirely. I thought I wanted to have the experience at some point, but it just wasn't the right time. Now it is, and I'm even more excited this time because I don't even have to think about going right back to school after my CP ends. And I'm a little older, and a little more mature. For me, doing the CP after graduation made more sense. Plus, after thinking about it for the past two years, I'm really sure I want to go now. I had my doubts back then.

Do whatever feels right. If you want to go now, just go. School will still be there when you get back. If school seems like a bigger priority, just deal with that and then think about the CP again some other time. If you decide to wait, it might be a nice break between college and a "real" job. That's what I'm using it for, anyway. Sorry for the rambling, and good luck making your decision. :)

For me, I want to work full time for Disney some day so not doing the CP would be missing a huge opportunity. I'm currently a junior and and engineering major so I'll end up being in school an extra year but it'll all be worth it I know.

If you're having these concerns now I would suggest waiting. I know personally, I am a hospitlaity major and I do want to work for Disney as my career so putting off school was no big deal to me at all. I couldn't wait to get to the mouse. And.... i'm taking off more time to do my 2nd internship that is required and applyinf for fall 2010 :-)

However, it sounds like you have other goals in mind as well, which is fantastic! The CP will probably be around for a long, long time.... and since you're only a sophomore, you have a couple years still to do it :) My 2 cents is to wait a year or two, do what you want to do in college, and then do the CP later!! That way you get the best of both worlds!

It's not the CP, but I took off for a study abroad Japan in the 2nd half of my Sophomore year without it really having anything to do with my major. Granted, I was able to get like... 5 credits worth of core requirements out of the way while I was there but the rest was basically wasted -- except for the amazing, unique experience that I had, which was totally worth it for me. The really good thing about the timing of doing things Sophomore year, I think, is that it's a good/easy/flexible year -- Freshman year is too early, and Junior and Senior years are more hectic and focused on your major.

ANYWAY, my point is that it might be helpful to look at the course catalog and talk to your counselor and try to make an outline of all the classes you would take if you went to Disney and if you stayed. It's really helpful to see everything laid out like that. Graduation seems like it's FOREVER away, but it sneaks up on you!

I had sooo many reservations before taking off for Florida. I've wanted to do the CP for a long time beforehand so I knew that Disney needed to be in my life at some point it was just a matter of when that needed to be. I realized that extra-curricular activities would always be an issue to battle (I'm very involved on campus). So with that in mind, I tried to focus entirely on when it was most appropriate to go as far as classes go. For me, that was Spring semester of sophomore year. (I'm a double major - education major so I had to think about field work and teacher certification exams).

I spent a lot of hours after I accepted the program thinking about everything I was going to be missing out on campus while I was down in Florida. I would be missing out on social activities and I would be giving up my place in a few clubs. I also missed out on the induction ceremony for an honor society I had been working hard to get into.

I won't lie, regardless of when you do the program, you will miss out on things at home. However, the experience you get down in Disney is one that I would regret far more if I missed over what I missed at home. I had the time of my life. As cliche as that sounds, it's sooo true. So, so true. I missed a lot back home but it was not difficult getting back into the swing of things after I returned from Florida. In fact, it appeared as if nothing changed. It was extremely eerie how it seemed things had not changed. It made the CP seem like a dream - that I went to sleep one night and woke up again back in my own bed. I was able to get readjusted in everything and catch up on what I missed.

As far as resume material...working for a fortune 100 company is a very good asset to that little piece of paper. Every company knows of Disney.

The fact of the matter is, if you don't do the program, you will miss out on the adventures it brings. Every year in Disney is different. If you chose to go to Disney, you will miss out on what goes on back home. It's all a matter of what you want more. Disney was 7 months of my life that I am glad I took. Home is all the space around those 7 months. If you feel like you can spare those few months on the program, I say do it.

I think everyone is going to have some sort of reservations about doing the CP-to a certain extent, everyone is missing out on certain things back home, so you definitely won't be alone there. Everyone is pretty much sacrificing the things they could be doing at home to do the CP. Hold off if you're definitely unsure, but just remember that new things will arise that will make you re-consider next time, too, and that being gone for 4-6 months will definitely make you miss out on a few things at home.
