I think you answered your own question. Don't know what else to say, maybe ask her if she can leave the computer for one day and see how she does.

Not sure what to say other then it does sound like a problem. Sure all of us here use the computer a lot but when you don't get off to be with other "real" people that is when you should stop. :grouphug:

I am sorry this was so long! What would you do in this situation? Any suggestions?

What would I do in this situation?

Nothing. It is her problem and I do not make it a point of creating drama in my life over something that is none of my business. If she comes to you for help, now that is another matter.

Course it took a long time to get to that point as my parents are a mess, but as long as she is not harming herself or others, like living in squalor, not eating, ignoring her health, etc.. I would not do anything.

Gosh, we had a poster come here looking for some suggestions about a situation that is obviously painful to herself and other family members and THIS is what you chose to share? :confused3

I believe an internet addiction is the same as any other addiction. And yes you can't help people unless they want it. However, maybe if all the family members sit down and explain how your mom's behavior is affecting you all she will see a little bit of the light.

Thank you - I chose to delete my first post just in case my family member does decide to come here...I decided it was pretty dumb on my part to post this in a public forum when the person I am talking about is addicted to chatting.

I appreciate your comments - we will continue to try to help her. :guilty:

I wouldn't consider it 'dumb'.....you feel like you are asking advice among friends and can sometimes forget that it might be a 'party line'. I think I just dated myself!! :teeth:

She said what would I do?

But I do not believe internet addiction is an addiction. I believe it is a behavior.
The thing you can do is get her out of the house and away from her computer.
Invite her over and things like that.

Sorry my parents are messed up and after trying to help them over and over again, it ends up uglier than if you ever did anything.

Sometimes you have to overlook certain things as long as no one is being harmed of course.
