Have you shared these comments with DVC directly? It sounds like they need additional lifeguards for the busy times of year. Unfortunately, many parents do not supervise their own children and things like you describe can happen if there aren't enough "eyes" on the pool.

My husband grabbed the football and gave it to the life guard...
Your husband must be well mannered.
I would likely have found a 'more creative' place to put the football... :teeth:

I'm so sorry that happened to you! Non-supervised kids is a huge pet peeve with me. Out of curiousity when were you there? Just planning for next year, we're planning on the week of April 17.
Thanks
Cora

We didn't experience any problems like this the first week in May. Of course this was after the "spring break" period. We noticed several times kids getting measured by lifeguards (and one being measured by his dad) to see if they were small enough to play on the pirate ship. My only issue was one day when it was cooler, the hot tub was filled with kids 10 and under throwing a beach ball around, all this with the parents sitting right there

I hope the parents of these older kids are DIS members and are reading this thread.....I have a 2-year old, also, and am amazed at all the "big" kids who run around in little-kid play areas at playgrounds, swimming pools, etc, in general. I am even more amazed at the lack of parental supervision in stopping these big kids from doing this!

Thanks for posting this, and I'm sorry to hear that you had that experience. I'd definitely call MS about this, just so it can hopefully get back to the management at VB, and the lifeguards can be trained to enforce these things a little more strictly.

This was the first time I saw older kids (around 10-12) cutting through the pirate ship and running around the golf course to play tag. (DD and I were golfing) The first time I asked nicely, the second time more sternly. They got the message and took the game elsewhere. If there would've been a 3rd time, I would have asked a CM to get involved.

I think there was another parent doing the same at the Pirate Ship.

I got hit by the same in the OKW pool, right in my ear, I was furious, threw the thing out of the pool area. What people are doing with these things in the pool is beyond me. We do not have life guards at OKW yet. I would think that this activity would not be allowed with lifeguards. The type of people staying at DVC has changed over the years, I would expect anything to happen at any DVC resort. Years ago I used to stay at the Disney Inn and nothing was allowed in the pools, I mean nothing. Kids were not allowed to jump into the pools either. That was a deluxe resort however and it was 20 years ago.

My DH and I have just returned from a week spent at VB (our home resort) and 4 days at OKW.

At OKW we were in building 19, just a stone's through from Millers Road quiet pool. On most of the days there was just DH and myself (I felt privileged, like having my own private pool).

When other people arrived with children, they were mostly considerate and if the kids got a bit loud, were told by their parents to make less noise or they would have to go to the main pool.

I really appreciated having a quiet pool with no piped music and peace so we could chill out.

Anyway the upshot is, both DH and myself think VB would be greatly improved by the addition of a quiet pool without piped music and lots of kids, not that I am anti kids in any way, but the pool area at VB is fairly small for the number of people at the resort.

Yes it is sad. We've noticed the past five years or so that things have become much worse. It's a shame that some parents can't seem to control their kids and could care less that their behavior affects others. I've been hit with flying things at BWV, OKW and the Poly. I really think it's time that balls, etc. be banned. We don't ever let our kids use anything in the pools unless we are at a quiet pool and we're the only ones there, which happens a lot at OKW and that's why my kids prefer OKW. I agree about the pool at Vero. I love it, it is a wonderful pool, but I wish they had a quiet pool too. And also I know what you mean about kids jumping into the pools. Why is it that everytime I am just trying to quietly sit by the side of a pool some kid comes right beside me and jumps right there?? Come on, I know it is a pool and you are supposed to have fun, but can't they go away from people?? That was always a rule with our kids, don't bother people, there is plently of room for everyone, just find an area where you won't bother anyone. Really very simple rules, it's just that people don't want to bother today.
