I love Blake's cereal bowl. Awesome! It's like how Jerry Seinfeld used to eat cereal on his show.
Actually, to be perfectly honest, we drive because my husband has Asperger's and we have learned that being in an airport, with all its many potential stressors, is just not worth it -- he stresses for days leading up to it, then stresses while on the vacation knowing we have to go through it again to go back home. So we figure if we ever want to go to Europe, we'll drug him up, but if it's any place we can drive, we'll drive.
My son is 9, and he's always done really well in the car -- we're road trippy people anyway, always heading out for the day on the weekends and just exploring. He sets himself up in the backseat with his portable DVD player, his Nintendo DS, and some books, and he's good to go for several hundred miles. Last time we drove down to Florida two years ago, we drove straight through (THAT was insane and I will never do it again!) and he slept most of the way because we left here around dinnertime on a Wednesday and arrived in Tallahassee around 2am the following night (Friday morning).
This time, I'm looking forward to a nice leisurely drive; we have taken two weeks off work. We've chosen some potential eateries from way too many viewings of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, and we're stopping in New Orleans to see some friends too. Less than a month away now! W00t!
