As the boys finished up their lunch, we began to talk about the rest of the afternoon. The usual stops were obvious, but I decided to throw in something different. While nothing they were desperate to try, the boys had both shown interest in checking out Tom Sawyer Island for quite some time. We had all agreed that it would fit best as a cooler weather activity and never really put any thought into it.

It was somewhat fresh in my mind from a TR I’d read (PirateKate's last, I think!) so I decided this should be the day. It was February now and there weren’t any “cooler” days left in our future! I thought this would be a nice way to take things a little slower and away from the crowds for Andrew, too. While he was fine that morning, I still didn't want to push him. He doesn't have much of a history of catching colds or anything, but seemed to have a rough winter. :sad1:

To the Island!

The journey across was so much fun. Andrew was really interested in seeing how this raft worked, so he squeezed in as close as he could to the CM in control. He instantly added this to his list of desired WDW jobs. I find it interesting that they all seem to include transportation. He loved the short ride over anyway!

When we were back on land, I had no idea where we were going or what we’d be doing. John and I had come over here on our first or second visit, but never again. Nothing stuck out in my memory beyond a bridge and my husband taunting me to smile for a picture. It was windy that day.. But none of that matters. This would be viewed as a brand new adventure for all of us!

Blake took control and pointed us up a path. Then he spotted something that didn’t go over well with Andy-Roo..

CIMG6707.jpg

“Blaker, noooo!!!”

Blake may not be able to read yet, but Andrew sure could! He screamed at Blake as soon as he saw it! This said to keep out and he wasn’t interested in another step! Andy-Roo stood back and tried to talk baby brother into returning to us before he got in trouble. Explorer Blake just looked back in confusion.

John and I did eventually recover from our efforts not to laugh and explained that it was okay, of course. Even so, there was no way he was going in there!

We explored more, finding interesting rocks and leaves, and even a “really cool” fence!

CIMG6710.jpg

CIMG6712.jpg

Maybe Andrew didn’t find the fence quite as “really cool” as Blake did? Haha..

The highlight during the first part of our fun was stumbling into a small play area. The boys were thrilled by and had fun climbing and sliding. I had no idea it was over here at all. There was a nifty little picnic area nearby. If the weather were nice, we decided this was a great little getaway spot for packing along lunch someday.

CIMG6715.jpg

CIMG6719.jpg

As it often happens in any quiet place where little ones can play, bigger kids invaded soon with no parents to be found. They were acting a little too wild for us and pushing each other around. We headed back on the trail to see what other fun spots this island was hiding instead..

CIMG6723.jpg

CIMG6725.jpg

Oooohhh.. Harper’s Mill! I’ve loved from across the water and now we were checking it out up close! Memory started coming back and I did recall walking through here before. It wasn’t all that exciting, but the boys thought the bird’s nest inside was amazing!

CIMG6729.jpg

CIMG6732.jpg

When the boys found those chairs soon after, break time was called! Andrew was given his camera and the boys went nuts for a bit while John and I relaxed and talked. They loved being able to run around and play for a while. It wasn’t anything super exciting, but Blake burned a lot of energy! He was really loving all this “walking boy” time at WDW!

CIMG6737.jpg

Say Cheese!

CIMG6747.jpg

While we were fine resting here for a verrryyy long time, the boys were ready to return to exploring. It was rough giving up those rocking chairs! We weren’t out of view before I saw another couple claim them. What a nice little spot!

CIMG6757.jpg

We eventually found that bridge I remembered from before and watched as the Liberty Belle passed by. I loved when the boys both decided to wave at the guests!

CIMG6762.jpg

CIMG6767.jpg

Having such a perfect view, we decided to stay in the area and watch for a BTMRR train to pass..

CIMG6784.jpg

CIMG6788.jpg

CIMG6789.jpg

I think someone wanted to go swimming!

We waited for quite a long time to catch one of those trains, but eventually decided the ride must be down. We never saw one go by at all! Realizing we were beside Fort Langhorne, the boys took off running to check it out instead!

We spent the rest of our island time in here. All those dark and narrow escape tunnels had me so nervous, but we explored every bit of the place.

They thought this guy was pretty neat!
CIMG6795.jpg

We then made our way up into the fort and found another train watching spot. This was something I had no clue about. Andrew absolutely loved it, but I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not! We pretended to shoot trains and had a great time. He couldn’t wait to ride BTMRR again, just so someone could shoot us! Scary..

One of the guns had some issues as we left. It started firing again and wouldn’t stop! Nothing seemed stuck to keep it going, so Andrew came to the only logical conclusion.. Haunted Mansion ghosts, of course! They could totally be over here!

CIMG6813.jpg

CIMG6831.jpg

That was the end of our TSI adventures and we all decided it was time to get back to the rafts. On my own, I would’ve been lost over here for hours. Thankfully, my three men knew how to get us where we needed to be! We didn’t wait long before we were on our way back to Frontierland.

Very cool...a new adventure! We've been over there a couple times, but I never knew there was a gun aimed at BTMRR! :scared1: Did you do the barrel bridge? I remember that being fun too. The island is such a nice, little, out-of-the-way place to relax (in those rockers)!

Wow! How pleasant!! This just sounds you guys had a wonderful time! We went over here on our first trip but we were in "see everything" mode and didn't really sit back and enjoy it! I think we'll just have to bring the future kiddos over here and really enjoy it. TSI is a place that I could have spent all day when I was a kid.

We did do the bridge. I couldn't remember when it was, so I left it out. Blake thought it was fun, but Andrew wanted off right away. I doubt it had anything to do with how much the rest of us had it moving, of course. :rolleyes1

Wouldn't that be the perfect place to play as a kid?? I thought that, too. We had a great time!

Back on land yet again, we kept the new and exciting going with a trip into Pecos Bill. That wasn’t anything too wild. John gets water there a lot. This time, however, we also bought grapes. ;) Andrew had said that he was hungry on the raft ride back.

Since I find Pecos Bill to be insanely crowded at all hours of the day, we didn’t stick around and looked for a shady spot outside instead. It was here that Andrew discovered that it wasn’t exactly hunger that he was feeling and complained of a headache, too. We decided it would be best to get out of MK for a break. Blake jumped back into walking boy status and we headed to the monorail.

Back at Pop, the boys checked out what mousekeeping had done with their toys, and everyone settle for a nap. There were no towel animals, which seem to be a big deal on the DIS, but they did make a cute little display of mickey soaps.

Andrew woke several times, complaining of other issues. It seemed whatever he had wasn’t going away quietly. He settled in time and seemed to rest. Even if he woke feeling better, I knew this was one Disney trip we’d be cutting short. John and Blake played outside while I packed things up. Tomorrow wouldn’t be a park day anymore. We were going home.

When Andrew was resting, I checked my boys outside.

They were having a great time playing with Blake’s cars. Thankfully, they were too big to fit under the rail or we would’ve had quite a problem. He made sure to check several times!

DSC00005.jpg

We both found the way the lifeguards were dressed compared to guests more than a little funny! We agreed anyway. It was a nice day, but still not swimming weather for us!

Andrew napped for a very long time, so this was the rest of our day. We had dinner in the room and watched cartoons. By bedtime, even Blake was feeling rough. It wasn’t looking good for us that night.

The next morning, the boys slept late and we headed back home!

Bye-Bye, Pop Century!

DSC00035.jpg

We had a nice time, and were all a little sad to leave early. Who wants to give up a day at WDW? Waking to runny noses and too warm foreheads didn't make staying a smart idea. As we left, I was happy that we do go often and this wasn’t a “once in a lifetime” type trip. I’ve noticed so many little ones that really don’t look like they should be in the parks, but I can also understand what a tough position to be in that must be for their mothers. Thankfully, the boys didn’t have anything serious and were back to their crazy normal in a few days. :)

Next Up!! My memory failed me!!! :confused3 Something I forgot!!

Poor Andrew! It is sad to give up a day at the parks but he was such a trooper just plowing along til you decided it was time to go back to Pop.

He was so full of energy and feeling great that morning that I didn't expect this at all. We wouldn't have spent so much time at MK if he wasn't feeling well. :goodvibes

Bummer that Andrew wasn't feeling too well and you had to head home early! Nice that you live so close and can come back, though. January 2010, I got very sick during our trip and it's no fun to be stuck in a hotel knowing you're missing out on precious park time that you can't get back.

And you forgot something?! Wow, wonder what it is...

Tom Sawyer Island looks like a lot of fun! So much to explore! I'll have to make a point of finding those rockers some day! I remember going to TSI as a kid, but my memories are very vague.

Poor Andrew, it made me so sad that he wasn't feeling good. I'm glad he got over it quickly once you got home!

Thanks for the beach ideas! I'm not sure why my dad said he'd rather visit the Atlantic side...I think he spent some time on the gulf when he traveled around the country after high school, so I'm thinking he picked it because he wants to see something he's never seen before. I'll have to see what he says, because everyone I've talked to says Clearwater is fabulous, as well as Siesta Key! Venice also looks great, and the beaches in the link you posted look amazing as well! Ahhh, endless possibilities!

Oh, I am bummed that Andrew was not feeling well.
I have never been a fan of Tom Sawyer Island - but it looks like the boys had fun and that is the best part!!!

Totally OT, but.... I had such a rough day!! We're about 90% finished with Andrew's school shopping and it's starting to get to me. Not that today wasn't a lot fun and super exciting for both of us, but... How is my baby old enough to go to school already?? He kept going crazy over picking out crayons and glue, while I wanted to hurry to turn back the clock as fast as I could! I see myself crying sooo much in a couple of weeks! Instead of working on my TR tonight, I was going through old photo albums of my little man. I know a few of you don't have children yet, but be prepared if you plan to. Time will start to fly sooooo fast! :sad1: Interested in hearing about his first trip? It was a short one. Reading through the photobook makes it feel like yesterday.. and it was over four years ago??

Okay, I'm done now. :goodvibes

I can imagine! So sorry you had to deal with that. With everything that goes into planning these trips, it's awful when anyone gets sick.

I couldn't believe I forgot this! Might be up soon as I don't see sleep coming until super late.. I need to break this after dinner coffee habit!! :rolleyes1

Those rockers are heavenly! Reminds me of quiet days back when I lived in Mayberry.. errr.. Ohio. ;)

That makes a lot of sense then. I'd want to try something different, too! Are you planning another TR?? I'd love to hear about where you decide to go. :thumbsup2

Oh, I am bummed that Andrew was not feeling well.
I have never been a fan of Tom Sawyer Island - but it looks like the boys had fun and that is the best part!!!

I wasn't impressed enough the first time to want to make a big point to return either. I guess that's part of having the boys. They made it more fun for us. That island is a little boy's paradise. I could see the boys spend hours playing games there now.

Before I move on, let’s jump back a little..

On our visit to ASMu for MNSSHP, we explored the resort the morning before leaving. While in the shop, I found the most incredible, most amazing, most awesomest antenna topper Mickey EVER! And I didn’t buy it. I think I mentioned this. ;) I didn't put a lot into it, but the quest to find this Mickey continued each visit. If we noticed a display of toppers, one of would glance over, just in case. Sadly, we always left without Mickey. It really seemed as if ASMu was the only place to find this, and I wasn't that interested.

Fast forward to our last day with Toontown!!

After that very last ever ride on Goofy’s Barnstormer, we weren’t really ready to quickly leave Toontown. Before playing in the Toon park, the boys and I slowed it down even more by browsing around the little merchandise area at the exit. It was here that something amazing was discovered.. They had that awesomest Mickey antenna topper! We had been looking for it all along, but with no luck. It seemed meant to be and I immediately purchased one for my car.

CIMG6849.jpg

Sadly, someone stole it and we never again put anything on the antenna.

I knew I should've followed the second set of directions and placed it inside the car!

The End.

That topper really did seem meant to be yours! I'm so sorry it was stolen! People stink sometimes! Though, I do have to say that that was the most random little update ever! You made me laugh! :rotfl2:

I'm sad for you that Andrew is heading off to school! I can believe that the time flies! My friend has a little girl (that I love almost as much as if she was my own) who is about to turn 2 and I feel like she was just born! And she isn't even MINE! I'm sure it's 100% worse when it's your baby!

I bought that topper for my mom back in March. She has yet to put it on her car as she is afraid someone will steal it!!
Hmmm, maybe I will tell her to just put it on her dash.

I totally want to hear about Andrew's first trip!!!! Not to make you want to cry any more, but as I was reading the other day I was thinking about what little babies the boys were when I started reading your last trip report...now look at them!!!!! Amazing!!

I LOVE the antenna topper! Why do people have to be so awful? I would never even think to steal an antenna topper from someone's car! :sad2:

About the next trip...if I can ever get my you-know-what in gear to finish this trip report I might consider doing one for the next trip! I've enjoyed writing it! It should certainly be interesting since we are adding my dad and brother to the mix! You know what? No more excuses, I'm going to post about the final day RIGHT NOW!!!!!

It totally made sense! I took that picture when we were at Pop. ;)

Blake is even sad over this! What are we going to do all day without brother??

She really should! This topper is irresistible! As cute as it was, I felt exactly the same way but put it on there anyway. During this stay at Pop, we could tell someone had been playing with it. It was on suuuuuuper tight, but had been pulled up and turned around in the parking lot. Not long after, someone here took it off my car.

I really might type something up because I made the album kinda like a super condensed TR. It seems like a different child when I look at those pics. And no worries over how much they've grown since the beginning of the last TR.. I've been half working on a video with our favorite pics from the first year lately. Maybe not the best idea..:sad1: They're so big now!

I LOVE the antenna topper! Why do people have to be so awful? I would never even think to steal an antenna topper from someone's car! :sad2:

People steal the most random stuff, I guess. I forgot to lock my car at a mall (in Clearwater!) once and someone took Andrew's baby shopping cart seat cover! That one was super weird, but I suppose the only thing in my car at the time. I learned a big lesson! John was afraid to tell me when he first noticed Super Mickey was gone. I was so sad over this silly thing! :sad1:

About the next trip...if I can ever get my you-know-what in gear to finish this trip report I might consider doing one for the next trip! I've enjoyed writing it! :yay::yay::yay:

OOOooohhh!!! I got it! I didn't realize how it fit into the current story. ;)

And I totally forgot to put in my vote for Andrew's first trip Trip Report! I would LOVE to read it too!

I agree that's the most awesome antenna topper ever! I almost bought it, but I don't have an antenna on my car! :lmao:

That stinks it was stolen. People are so shady!

I saw this exact same one on a car today while my Mom and I were shopping. I'd never seen it before today and thought it was really cute.:)
I'm so sorry someone took yours and I'm thankful no one has taken my princess one.princess:

Hmmm. Maybe I should have included that note in the update. You're so right. It seems nuts just tossed in there the way it was! :rotfl:

I'm considering doing one about his first bday still, but it was sooo long ago. I don't see any rules about how recent TRs need to be, but it might be odd. :confused3 A bit of what we did no longer exists! (Mostly Toontown) I think the two of you would be the only readers!

You could always put it inside your car instead. ;) It was a sad thing to happen, but I knew it was always a possibility when we became antenna topper people. :sad2:

I hope no one ever takes yours'! We didn't have any problems with all of the other toppers, but now I'm afraid to put one on at all!
