Did not see a thread posted here about this. So.........just know that on Monday a pickup truck collied with a semi in this area. The fire from the semi damaged the overpass of northbound span of the I-4 turnpike.

Portions of this bridge are now under construction and estimated completion is after New year. If your drive plans include this area note that you will expereince delays There will be one northbound lane and one southbound lane open during the repairs.

So check your maps if your travels include this area.

:drive:

This did not happen on I-4. The section of road that was affected is on the Florida Turnpike and its location is in Clermont just west of SR 429.

I stand corrected. Local news may have misquoted, or I may have misunderstood.

thanks

Currently there is nothing wrong with the dreaded I-4 other than its normal dreadedness.

Those coming from the northwest (via I-75 to Florida's Turnpike) will run into delays. The choke point comes on Florida's Turnpike before (west of) the new Toll 429 (Western Beltway) taking you directly to Disney's new back door (Hartzog Road becomes Western Way) to Buena Vista near Blizzard Beach.

Getting off on 27 south before this mess and then taking 50 east to get back on the turnpike has been suggested but 50 is also very congested, and slow.

Is there any other way around this? We have been trying to google this, and it seems that it takes us over an hour no matter what we do. It may be better to sit thru this???? Is there another way, instead of going to 95? We leave next Saturday, and will be going thru this on sunday. Thanks

Traffic is passing in both directions at the point of the repairs. This is normally, not a very busy section of road and the digital sign on the Turnpike yesterday stated that drivers should expect "Minor Delays".

If you're southbound on the Turnpike headed TO Orlando, get off at the US27 exit just prior to the mainline toll plaza at Leesburg. Take US27 south from there and you'll bypass both the mainline toll plaza (which itself can have 1/2-hour delays at peak times) and the bridge closure. You'll pay a $1.25 toll at the exit but not pay the $2.50 toll if you remained on the Turnpike. (Also, I've heard they may be waiving the toll to those exiting but not positive.)

From there, if you're headed to the Disney area, I'd recommend that you continue south on US27 until you get to US192 and then take that east towards WDW, Kissimmee and I-4.

If your destination requires you to get back to the Turnpike, then when you get to Clermont take the SR 50 exit and head back east to the junction with the Turnpike south. If that is backed up, it's because everyone else is trying to do what you're doing.

Now if that is really backed up and you MUST get yourself back to the Turnpike, you can stay on US27 to a traffic light called Hartwood Marsh Road. Turn left and follow this into Orange County. It's a 2-lane road and you'll feel like you're in the middle of nowhere but follow it east and it becomes Stoneybrook West Parkway in Winter Garden and you can hop on TOLL 429 northbound for $.50 which will take you the 3-miles back to the Turnpike. This is kind of a secret road so don't tell anyone.

As of 12 Noon today all lanes on Florida's Turnpike at this Lake County accident site were to be open and operational, per the Orlando Sentinel.
