DW and I are new DVC members. We have our first trip home planned for our anniversary weekend in May but we might have to cancel. I may be able to start school for the fire department in April instead of June and I was told that it would be very bad to miss even a day if it can be helped. I was wondering if September is a good month to go for a long weekend for two? Is anything later than that better without getting into the Thanksgiving/Christmas season? Thanks for the suggestions!!!!

September and October are both good months to go. I just cancelled my week in september to take a cruise, but when I booked it last week I got my ressie at AKL with absolutely no problem. Good luck!

The love bugs are a nuisance the end of September. Just mentioning this in case bugs are really disgusting to you. These bugs are only interested in each other--hence the name--but they cover the surfaces of pop machines and newspaper machines, and fly around. These little guys are actually in the housefly family, but their whole purpose is to procreate and die. DD was grossed out by them, so she didn't have much fun last year.;)

Sorry to hear you might have to cancel, but it sounds like it would be for a great cause!

Just wanted to remind you to cancel the May reservation at least 31 days prior to arrival. If you don't, the points will go into holding status and that will make them much harder to use.

If you can arrange your trip to be after September 26, you can take advantage of EPCOT's Food & Wine Festival. (Sometimes it's hard to get DVC accommodations after the 7 month mark passes for that time, but Friday & Saturday nights are easier to book than the weeknights). The F&W festival can be lots of fun for couples. And if you time it right, you can even go to one of the MNSSHP - my 60+ DH really enjoyed that one. Surprised me a bit, LOL.

Good luck - for both the fire department opportunity and the trip.
