Delaying Luggage Delivery from DME

Not sure if this belongs here or in transportation. We'll arriving on a red-eye flight at 7:00 a.m. from the West Coast. Since the best case scenario is that my kids (6 and 8) will get 5 hours of sleep on the flight, my plan is to have them go to bed for at least a few hours when we get to the hotel, before heading out to a park. When we check in at CBR, can we tell the front desk/bell services to hold off on delivering our checked bag to the room until the afternoon?

I would keep them up at least until the luggage comes. If you let them sleep it will be tougher to get on local time. Stay up, have breakfast, explore the resort, have lunch, take a short nap - an hour max, go to bed early if you must, but don't sleep in the morning.

We've done two red-eye flights to Europe (admittedly much longer journeys) and while it sounds good in theory to keep them up (and as an adult, this is what I always do to combat jet lag), they do not function well on less than their normal amount of sleep. My daughter especially will be totally unbearable and I'm not willing to put myself through that misery. I think if they sleep until noon and then go hard at the parks for several hours, they won't have any problem getting to bed at a normal time that night and adjusting to the time change.

Disney notes that it could take up to 3 hours from when you arrive at your resort for your luggage to arrive. It'll likely be every bit of that, if not more, I suspect.

You could try to tell bell services to not deliver it but part of me says your results doing this could be hit/miss. That's asking them to be more coordinated than they probably are.

I'm thinking if it's super-critical to you, you might want to consider not using DME for luggage and just get your bags yourself.

Or maybe just make a sign to put on the door saying absolutely do not disturb! :-)

Separately, I've never done a night before reservation but I've read you need to make sure Disney knows this so they don't give your reservation away when you don't arrive that day. You're probably on top of that but just wanted to mention it in case that is in fact true.

Have a great trip!

We reserved the room for the night before, so the room should be ready to check in.

Make sure Disney knows that you are arriving in the morning. If you are not checked in by 6:00 a.m. they may consider you a "no-show" and give your room away.

I agree with GADisneyDad14. I would consider picking up your own luggage at the airport and taking it with you on DME. Yes, it adds a few minutes, but, from my own personal experience, the left hand doesn't always talk to the right hand at WDW and you could ask bell services not to deliver your luggage, but there's no guarantee they won't do it anyway.

I also agree about letting them sleep. We've flown to Europe with DS twice and he absolutely had to go back to sleep when we got to our hotels. He was then fine (and actually adjusted more quickly to the time change than we did!) by around noon and off we went!

Thanks everyone. Question about grabbing the bag ourselves at MCO -- since we're staying at CBR and it's my understanding that luggage isn't allowed on the internal bus, won't we still have to have Bell Services deliver the bag from Custom House to our room unless we want to schlep it on the walking path (hoping to stay in Jamaica)? Will it be much faster to have Bell Services do it if we have the bag in our possession at check in?

Edited since there's been a better answer!

After you check in you will be transported to your room via golf cart with all your bags.

We are definitely notifying them of our late arrival (we booked through a third party and noted that on our reservation. When I contacted Disney directly I was told they can't see those notes or make their own note on our reservation until the week before our trip). We have a fully prepaid reservation, so I wouldn't think they'd give our room away.

With that said, I've been curious how, with the online check in and "skip the front desk", they would even know someone was a "no show." Does their keyless entry system send them a notice if an assigned room isn't accessed by someone by the following day?

Once the computers roll over to the new day at 6:00AM, any reservations that have not had the guests check in will be cancelled unless it is noted on the reservation beforehand.

If it rolls over to the new day at 6AM and you have not gotten on a Magical Express bus or scanned your Magic Band anywhere on property, the know you have not arrived.

We just left a note on our door and hung the do not disturb sign at CBR when we thought luggage delivery would overlap with nap time. Our bags were left just outside our door. Obviously not a good solution if it's raining
