my school has a dlayed opening today as practice for Snow Days. I still come in early and go to meetings, seminars and the like. But no students for the first 2 hours :teeth: . Just wish I could come in late when its really cold out.

WOOO HOOOO!!!!! 27 minute periods today ;)

Sounds good to me! I am keeping my fingers crossed that we'll have a "snow day" at work tomorrow--they are forcasting sleet for tonight and everything shuts down in Atlanta when there is the least bit of precipitation. :teeth:

A "practice" delayed opening? huh???????????

If you don't mind my asking, what exactly is it that the kids need to practice that is more important than class time?

A practice snow day in the middle on January? That makes no sense.

Anthony, you have "practice" snow days??? I thought I lived in the Great White North and we don't practice those here, we just do them!! LOL
Glad you enjoyed it tho! :)

We really dont have snow days. 80-90% of the students travel to school with the school bus that we provide. So on snowy days we have delayed opening to accomadate those travelling by other means and to allow the bus drivers to travel when the roads are a little more clear. It also give the faculty a chance to have workshops and meetings to better assist our students. Today I had a department meeting regarding upcoming midterms and new teacher meeting to kind of check up on our progress and find out whats new at the school.

Can I ask a .. somewhat silly question? What school district/county do you work in?

In all my years of going to public school in NJ, We -never- had a "practice" delayed opening/school day.. I have -never- heard of such a thing.

As a student, I would have celebrated something like htat... ;)

I work in Hudson County at the Hudson County School of Technology High Tech HS ;)

We have a school dist. in the "afflutent" part of town that does delayed openings twice a month for teacher meetings, etc. it seems a bit silly to do it so often. In our dist. we tried one late start once when we had snow and it failed so badly that they have never done that again. Perhaps if we had practiced it....

I LOVE days with short classes! It's a good break for all.

BTW- we have a snow day today!

We have delayed start on Wednesday every week. They go in an hour late every Wednesday. Antnee said they are having delayed start today to 'practice for snow days', which I think makes no sense whatsoever.

What I meant was that we dont have snow days generally unless its really bad. So instead we have delayed openings to still have classes (although much shorter) and the buses can travel when the roads are safer

My area seldom has snow days unless there is significant snowfall. They also have delayed openings.

But I've never heard of practice snow days before. I've heard of half days for teacher meetings, but never to practice for snow
