Delay Stay Question

YES IT'S HURRICANE SEASON. LET'S BE REALISTIC, IT RUNS HALF OF THE YEAR. WITH THAT SAID, I'M BOOKED ON A SEPTEMBER CRUISE. WE SAILED DURING JEANNE LAST YEAR, AND DISNEY GAVE US A DISCOUNT FOR THIS YEAR.

QUESTION, IF DISNEY DELAYS THE START OF A CRUISE, WILL THEY PUT YOU UP FOR FREE AT A RESORT? I.E. SAIL DATE IS SATURDAY, BUT WE DON'T LEAVE UNTIL SUNDAY. WHO PAYS FOR SATURDAY NIGHT ME OR THE MOUSE. I KNOW THEY WILL COVER THE BACK END OF A CRUISE, WE WE'RE TAKEN TO THE SWAN AND DOLPHIN FOR A NIGHT BECAUSE WE HAD TO ABANDON SHIP A DAY EARLY.

NO, I DON'T HAVE CRUISE INSURANCE. THAT'S THE NEXT DECISION.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. LOVE THE BOARDS. I HAVE LEARNED A LOT OVER THE YEARS. :goodvibes

Please add turning off CAPS lock to things you have learned :goodvibes

It is hard to read when posts are in all caps...

Disney seems to do things different each time these situations occur, even different for guests on the same cruise. I would get insurance & plan on covering any costs associated with a delay. Then keep all receipts & turn it over to the insurance company...

Good luck!!

That is true. Last year with the delayed cruise some were told of the block of rooms that was held for cruisers but others were not. These situations tend to make for alot of confussion at the DCL call center...more so than usual.

Just a thought, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the people who put up a stink that get the comped rooms as opposed to those that just accept the delay in departure and make their own arrangements for lodging. We're going to purchase insurance for next August 06, so will be prepared for the worst.

Since I was on the Hurricane Frances cruise -- shortened due to the storm. We DID NOT have insurance -- do I regret it -- not really.

If you do a breakdown of costs -- we were supposed to move off property on 9/3 to be closer to the port (surprise the hotel was evacuated :goodvibes ), so we had to stay at POFQ instead.

Personal I felt better staying on WDW property (built to code) than anywhere else. First - they weren't sure exactly what rate we were going to pay (rack or hurricane). They ended us charging us the lower rate for the extra days.

Friday - no additional cost - since we would have been paying the same for the other hotel.
Sat. - $ 80.00 - plus about $35.00 in food costs
Su. - $ 80.00 - plus $ 25.00 food costs (food court was closed for 24 hours due to storm - spent $ 20 in hurricane supplies at Publix on Thurs. nite).
Mon - Original was paying for the room, but found out from another guest that DCL was offering to pay for room & hoppers - went to desk and they confirmed it - and gave it to us. We DID not moan & complain to get this -- everyone should have but if you didn't mention it -- DCL & WDW was going to do it.
Thurs. - just breakfast - then down to the port.

So... I was out about $ 300.00 for the extended stay - but DCL also gave us stateroom credits, 50% refund & vouchers. Do I regret not having insurance - not really.

Still on the fence about this year -- if the Atlantic looks busy -- I will buy it before we leave. I am most afraid of not getting back into Port and missing the flight home.

We were already at WDW last year when the Jeane cruise was delayed. In fact, I called DCL on Friday morning and was told that everything would go as planned. On Friday afternoon, there was a message on my cell phone to call.....

We already had a hotel room for Friday night. Thus, we needed rooms for Sat. night and Sunday night. THe cruise actually left about 12:30 am on Tuesday (but that's another story.) We did get a room at WDW. We paid full fare for the extra 2 nights. In fact, they were the most expensive 2 nights of the vacation. However, when you are standing at the front desk of a resort essentially begging them to find you a room, you don't have much choice. We did have to move to a different resort as the resort we were staying at was full. I did explain to the CM at the resort that we needed the rooms because of the change of the cruise, etc. She was great, but obviously she is not in charge of making decisions. I do know that she went to the back and tried to make arrangements for us--in fact, she sent out another CM to tell me that she wasn't ignoring me, but trying to do the best she could for us.

In fairness to DCL--we did get our 40% off the cruise fare plus onboard credit. Also, my land portion and sea portion were booked separately, so officially one did not know about the other. Basically, I came out even. It cost almost exactly the same amount for the extra 2 nights plus some food that we could eat in the room (and one dinner out) as what I got refunded on the cruise.

So...was I out $? No. What I got was a messed up trip for the cost of what should have been a great trip. Travel insurance would have paid to "redo" the trip. What I saw was people getting $1000 per day and people getting their exact expenses refunded depending on their insurance plans. I'm not upset....but this year, I bought the insurance.
