Del Sol vs. Ramada Inn Maingate?

We are currently booked at the Park Vue Inn but I have been feeling uneasy about staying there with some things I have read recently. Jack's thread was the last straw for me.

I am wondering about people's experience with the Del Sol Inn and the Ramda Inn Maingate.
How much further is the walk at Ramada? How do the rooms compare? Are they both CLEAN?

I have read that not all of the rooms at Ramada Maingate are remodeled rooms. Is this a big deal? On their website they are offering a free deluxe room upgrade but I am not sure what deluxe means because they also have "premium" rooms for a higher rate.

I think I can book Del Sol for less and I am also wondering about people's experiences there. Thanks for any help you guys can give. I LOVE this forum!

We stayed at the Del Sol last year, and have a reservation for it this fall (though I have another reservation at FFI, too, trying to get an extra room there). Del Sol is certainly not nice, but it is cheap and clean. I haven't stayed at Ramada, but I know it has many fans as well.

Del Sol is older, but it is clean. I felt like the carpet was dated, but that I could certainly touch the floor. The best are firm, but I didn't notice I had any trouble sleeping, probably because I was so exhausted from spending all day in the park! The bathroom is kind of small, but it does have the sink and mirror on the outside, so that's nice. Great when someone can take a shower while the other person brushes teeth, etc. The room was larger than most motels in that price range, and I felt like we had plenty of room to move around.

The breakfast does leave a bit to be desired. It's mostly toast, danish, maybe some muffins. Cereal, milk, and fruit. So not exciting, but fine to give you something to fill your tummy as you walk to the park. There is a fridge in the room, so I supplemented with yogurt, etc.

One positive thing of note: Del Sol is NOT on the bedbug registry, which is certainly nice! I know plenty of perfectly nice hotels are, but that just made me more willing to stay there.

All in all, Del Sol is a good spot if you are just looking for a spot to sleep. If you want to have pool time or hang out in the room, you might be better off somewhere else. But it's hard to beat that short walk!

I researched the heck out of hotels before choosing Ramada Inn Maingate. I love the fact that the rooms are all redone, the pool looks amazing (and gets reviews to such,) the walk to the Pedestrian entrance is super close, the breakfast gets good reviews, and the staff is really nice and friendly (Their facebook crew is so much fun to talk to.) I'm excited for our stay there next month! They have some deals going on if you go to their main page. We got our rooms for $89 a night, but are also going to get a $65 credit off our bill if we show a gas receipt for up to that much (which we will- we will fill up before heading to the airport :) )

I also checked before booking, but they aren't on the BB registry either :)

We'll be staying at Ramada Maingate in September. We booked it through Westjet Vacations, so it was bundled with our flight and I don't know the cost of the room, but it was a really good deal. I called and got our room upgraded from Deluxe to Premium for $16 a night. This puts us in a larger, newer room on the top floor with views of the fire works.

Posted my reply to you on the other thread, not sure if you seen that one yet :)

I did. Thanks, Michelle! We are leaning toward the Del Sol. I think I've read enough reviews now to satisfy me. The close walk, and the fact that I can get a kids room with bunkbeds for the same price as two queens at RI is a big plus for us. My kids will really benefit from having their own space to sleep.

good choice, especially with kids, theres always something so much more fun about a bunkbed!

I'd recommend doing a search, we stayed at the Ramada Inn Maingate in July and it was great, exactly what we were looking for, very close, nice pool, decent breakfast included, and not too expensive.

No opinion on the Del Sol.

(We did do the free upgrade booking through the Internet.)

The rooms were a bit worn -- even the renovated rooms -- but they were very clean, and maid service was thorough and consistent.

I researched both of these hotels (plus a couple of others) for our stay recently as well. We chose the Ramada Maingate primarily because their pool is so much better, but not everyone wants a midday break so it wouldn't matter.

We hada great stay so after our stay I found them on Facebook and noticed that they have excellent online customer service, even helping someone change rooms mid-stay.

If I had to pick over again, I would definitely go with Ramada Maingate, if only to know that if I have any problems, I could report it on Facebook and have them fix it right away

The Del Sol and the Ramada MG are so close together I wouldn't let the distance be the deciding factor. The walk according to google maps is 3 min between the properties (I seriously doubt it would even take that long.) The RMG pool is nice and fairly large for the motels on Harbor. Breakfast was decent, and the room was nice and so was the staff and free parking is a great feature. I haven't stayed at the Del Sol, but have heard its alright too.

Thanks for the input everyone. We booked the Del Sol and I think it will suit our needs. Cleanliness, proximity to the gates are very important. I understand both of these hotels are quite close to the gates. Pool was not a big factor this time because we are going in November and might not get to use it much.

Having the bunk beds for my daughters was one of the deciding factors because they share a bunk bed at home, and when we are way from home at a hotel it's hard to my girls to settle down and go to sleep when they are in a bed right next to eachother. Having them seperated will help... as will walking all day, I'm sure!

I'm staying at the Ramada Maingate in mid-September.
I became a fan of them on Facebook. I LOVE that they not only have a Facebook page, but an ACTIVE Facebook page. They post every day some little tidbit. They even run specials/raffles through the page along with their Twitter account.

They will actually respond to posts! This means a lot to me. They obviously are well managed and current with today's social media expectations. Bravo.

I've even watched Youtube videos they have uploaded and participated in trivia that is sometimes posted.

Can't wait to check-in on the 19th!

Ramada is just south of the entrance, DelSol is just north of the entrance.

Ramada standard rates are a little lower. I have stayed at Ramada 3 times and we are going back in January. Ramada normally has some type of rate promotion. The staff are very good. The rooms have been remodeled, there is a new pool, free breakfast and free parking at Hotel

We feel it is the best value for Hotels at Disneyland.
We have not stayed at the Del Sol. Have not had any reason to stay anywhere else.

We stayed at the Del Sol for our vacation (sept26-oct2) had no issues, great clean rooms, beds are a little hard, and we had 6 ppl in our room, so it was squishy, but do-able!

I have stayed at all 3 hotels, and Park Vue Inn is by far the nicest of the 3. Have stayed their many times and have always been 100% happy. Ramada and Del Sol are about the same as far as walking distance and room condition. When we stayed at Del Sol, 2 of the 4 times we left the property there was no parking spaces available when we returned. We were given a parking permit to park at the Anaheim Plaza. If I wanted to walk as far a AP, I would have stayed there and saved $50 a night.:(
