We just got back from staying at the Del Sol June 4-9th. I know some people had been asking about it so here is my review. A bit about myself . . . I am a bit of a cheap skate
and don't consider myself very picky on the whole. I did not take pictures.
The room was on the ground floor with two queen beds.
The beds are very firm which I don't like but seemed in good condition. Our duvet cover had a seem open at the top that needed mending but was probably one of the best duvets or top blankets I've seen at a hotel. It had a lovely soft underside. There were two pillows for each bed. I was so glad I had brought my own because the pillows were very firm too.
Carpet had a snag right in the middle of the room that had turned into a small hole. Didn't notice any feet turning black from dirt though.
The room itself was quite roomy between the beds and the tv. Probaby a 4 foot or so gap. Plenty of room to park my brothers ecv without having to trip on it.
Bathroom-- had to hold the handle down to make sure things flushed. Figured that out after having to call the office twice to have a plunger brought. A little bit of mold in a corner and plaster flaky a little around the towel hook. Both of those things were small and not wide spread but still noticeable every time you sat down.
Fridge and microwave worked great and the fridge was a good size.
AC was awsome. Quickly cooled the room.
Plugs: This is my main gripe about the room. There were not enough plugs that worked. The plug by the bed didn't work at all, the plug on the wall by the sink was tempermental and would or would not work whenever it pleased. There was another one that was on the side of the counter where the sink was that had a spot for six plugs to go into it with the microwave and refridgerator but it was very hard to access and at least one of the outlets on it was not working. We had 3 cell phones and a skooter that had to be charged every night and it was a hassle having three of the plugs not working. There was one other lamp that had a plug in it but we had to unplug it so we could plug the skooter in.
Breakfast was white or wheat bread, danish, cut up oranges, corn flakes or cherrieos. Orange juice ( I liked it), milk, one other kind of juice, and coffee. they did have a toaster, butter and little jam packets for the bread. It got old very fast though. I think that if they rotated the danish with muffins or donuts each morning it would be much better but that's just me.
Parking was not good. There was not enough and the overflow was the Denny's parking lot which was annoying but not a huge issue. They were repainting the rails for the second story and had some of the parking blocked off in case the paint dripped. At the rate they are painting though I would think that will be finished in a couple days.
Washing machine was broken and there is only one washer and one dryer. That was very inconvient.
Pool was clean and a lovely temperature. Saw a guy out there at least two mornings checking chemicals and washing down the pool deck. He probably did it each morning.
Workers were friendly and fairly prompt. We had to ask for extra pillows and towels. They were working on upkeep in one of the rooms that I saw as well as repainting the railing.
Location was great of course.
I paid $368 + 30 for the peace of mind at getawaytoday.com with the buy 3 get 2 night free so the price was right.
Overall I was a bit disappointed because of the electricty problem, the fact that the one washer was broken, and the breakfast had no variety day to day which I think would be fairly easy to do and I doubt cost much different. You could tell the room was a bit run down and needs some work but I do think they are trying. The electricy was the main thing. If it had worked properly I think I might have overlooked the other things but the electricity was a constant problem.
I would stay here again if money was an issue (as it was) but only if I could get a great rate. I would not pay more than $75 a night after taxes and that is only because of location.
