Del Sol or Portofino or other??

Hi, we are making a last minute trip and I am finding it difficult to find a reasonably priced property. Our Canadian dollar isn't very strong right now so we are adding at least 30% to the posted rates. We were hoping to stay across the street and usually stay at the HOJO. It's our first trip without kids (since our honeymoon in Disneyland). I have found availability at Portofino (but read some terrible reviews) and the Del Sol (better reviews here). What do you think? Where would you stay? Thanks in advance:)

While I have not stayed at either of these hotels, the location of the Del Sol would make it the no-brainer choice for me. Basically right at the crosswalk on Harbor vs the Portofino way down past Katella on Harbor.

That's what I'm thinking. Thanks!

We have stayed at the Del Sol and it was fine, nothing special. The parking was very tight but the location can’t be beat! Since we spend all day in the parks it worked out well for us:)

We've stayed at both, and found them both to be just fine but nothing to get excited about. If the price were comparable, I would take the Del Sol simply because it is so close. Portofino is still within walking distance, but that extra block seems really long after fireworks!

My vote would be for Del Sol, not because of location or anything really about rooms or hotel overall, I don't know much about that, but rather because they will work with Moving Mobility America to allow them to drop off and pickup ECVs, even if the person needing the ECV isn't a guest if their hotel. And while I am local and don't need the hotel, I want to see them be supported for be willing to help out the community like that. I think businesses should get rewarded for doing good like this, as I said, as a local I usually don't have a need of a local hotel, but do sometimes need an ECV and know other locals who do and the in park rentals are truly terrible and over priced, so this provides a nice option.

So if you are considering this hotel, I would encourage you to choose it over the other and if this is a deciding factor for you, make sure they know that this was a factor in your decision.

Thanks for this input, I like the idea of supporting a business that provides this service! This makes me feel better about our decision. I booked the Del Sol tonight! I appreciate you taking the time to share this story. :)

You are welcome, just found out about this yesterday, so it was timely.tonsee this thread yesterday.

I stayed at the del sol and found it to be shabby. And my standards on Harbor are not very high! I prefer the Desert Inn next door. And it’s currently cheaper for my dates.

We just returned from our trip and 4 nights at the Del Sol. I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised!! They put us on the 'quiet side', apparently away from kids and families (as it was just my husband and I). We were in room 237, right near the stairs at the front of the property. Our room was quiet, we hardly ever saw anyone around yet they were almost fully booked! The room isn't fancy but it was VERY clean, the staff super helpful and friendly! Breakfast was included but we never went, hours were 7-9am. We were gone before 7am each day. You can't beat the location! If you are thinking of saving a few dollars this isn't a bad choice. The bed was comfy too! I would stay there again.

We stay at either Del Sol or Desert Inn and they are very comparable. Del Sol is nothing fancy, but the staff was great when we were there and the rooms clean. We chose Del Sol again for our upcoming March trip.
