We currently have a disney executive 2 room suit booked at the tropicana for our 1 week stay end of september, however we can get a kids room at the del sol inn for approx $700aud less for the week.
Tropicana is a bigger and kids get their own room, view of disney fireworks from balcony, no breakfast, close to disneyland.
The del sol in has breakfast but we are all in the one room and slightly further walk then tropicana, but $700 could be used on other things too.
The main reason we booked the tropicana was so we had 2 rooms and really close, but im wondering if we'd be better off saving the money and staying at del sol inn?
We plan on going back to the room at times during the day and using the pool.
Kids will be 5 and 8 then.
What would you do?
Review seem to be about the same for both places.

How does the Tropicana 2Queen bed / one room compare to the room at Del Sol?
If you are considering changing to a one room vs two, I'd check out what the Tropicana has to offer. And possibly stay at the Tropicana and save $$.

The ease of being right at the crosswalk on Harbor is first on my preferred list. For inexpensive breakfast you could stop in at the McDonald's on Harbor or cross the Esplanade to Starbucks for their breakfast items.

The room at the del sol is 2 queen bed and 1 bunk. Tropicana have a 2 queen rooms too but its still bit more then the del sol and the fact that the kids would then get their own beds and breakfast is better then the cheaper option at tropicana. The kids would have to share in the more expensive room at tropicana, but atleast they have their own room, so if they start fighting dh and i can just close the door lol.

We'll be in the same boat for our first trip to DL. Looking forward to hearing some more answers.

From my *very* limited research, I'd be probably choosing Trop based upon the benefits of being closer and the extra room. $555 USD (700AUD) for a week (5-7 days) is worth it to me for those benefits.

Breakfast is one of those "eh" meals for us, so that's not really something we care about in this type of situation. Plus Disney for us is usually WDW and that means no free bfast at any Disney property, so it's sort of par for the course. Picking up some donuts / pastries and fruit on the way in will cover several breakfasts and grabbing an early lunch in the parks is something we usually do to beat the crowds.

I would probably save the $700 personally but I like to save money! :goodvibes
We have stayed at the Del Sol twice now and are staying again in June. The main reasons for us are the bunk beds, proximity to the parks and cost. I would not choose Tropicana based on proximity because the Del Sol is really not that much further. It really is super close to the crosswalk. I can't comment on the Tropicana rooms since we have not stayed there. The breakfast does kind of suck at the Del Sol though, so we just pick up some things we can eat in line.

These resorts are very close. I would not determine my choice by location.

As others have said, the distance is negligible. If you want close, you already are. I stayed in a kids room at Del Sol last April. We had 5 adults and my 3yr old. The room was a little shabby, the breakfast not enough to really fill us for long, and we were a bit cramped. That said, it's not really any further than the Tropicana and we couldn't beat the price. We don't spend time in the room other than sleeping, so it was fine for us. If you care about a nice room, probably go for the Tropicana. Otherwise, I'd say save the $700!

Those hotels are both very close, so the distance does not really matter. It's not like you're comparing HOJO and Best Western. I would save the $700 and use that money towards the fun things you're going to do on your trip. I haven't stayed at either hotel, but I've read that Del Sol is well liked by frequent visitors.

I've stayed at the Del Sol once several years ago and would chose it over the Tropicana. The money saved could make a huge difference in what you else you can do on your trip as others have said. I would assume from the fact that you are asking the question in the first place means your are money aware and like to save where you can. If you chose Del Sol it would be giving you that much more "play money". $555 USD can bring a lot of treats or fun things in the parks that will raise the enjoyment of the trip and you could feel good about it.
