Can we start a list? I really, really, really want to do this in April, but I get motion sickness. I think 99% of my problem is psychological. Any tips/hints on how to get over this?

THANKS.

No hints yet, as I haven't ridden it. But, motion sickness is definitely not psychological! It's very real, and can ruin several hours of a magical vacation. Been there, done that - and I'm VERY interested in this thread and will be closely watching too.

I'll start..
1. Don't take your eyes off the screen.
2. Don't eat a big meal or drink a carbonated drink for at least an hour or two before riding.

I just want to say:what a great idea for a thread. My sister and I will be in WDW next April too and can´t wait to try Mission Space, but I am suffering from motion sickness,so all tips are very welcome.I think I read somewhere that it´s a good idea to take some bonine before riding.Any experiences???

AGREED!

And - DO NOT close your eyes. They tell you this before you board the ride. It will make you feel the motion more. And keep your head back against the headrest, don't try and move it. And don't forget to breathe! If you're nervous and hold your breath, it won't help!

she swears by bonine, its a non drowsy version of draminine.

usually takes it before we leave the resort room and shes good for the day!!

Someone else had posted this tip a while ago. I tried tightening my stomach muscles during the ride and it worked great. The only time I felt discomfort was in the few seconds I let my muscles relax so I could take a breath. I felt a little weird for a couple of hour after the ride, but at least I was not nauseous.

TIP:

"Mission Space: The ride experience varies depending on which seat you're in. The Navigator has the mildest ride, Pilot next, Commander a tad tougher and the Engineer's seat gets the most pull.

Another thing that helps enormously is taking a deep breath and bearing down on your stomach muscles like you are going to the bathroom. I know it sounds crazy but some of the queasiness that you get is from your stomach and internal organs pressing up against your diaphragm. I found myself doing that reflexively on the ride, a function of my own flight training in response to G forces. It also helps to brace your feet against the bulkhead in front of you rather than place your feet directly under your seat. I would recommend going in the morning and eat only a light breakfast if at all at least 2 hours before you ride. Afterward expect to be a little weak kneed for a few moments"

bearzabout, that's the kind of things they tell media VIPs to do when they get to go on rides in fighter jets. To withstand the G forces and not pass out or get sick they tell you to grunt. That contracts the stomach muscles in much the same you you describe.

I've heard that the slingshot effect around the moon at MS is the most intense part.

I really want to do MS, but I almost got sick riding the big ferris wheel at California Adventure. Not sure how I'd fare on this...

Does MS take your stomach in the way that you feel when you are going down a big drop?

To repeat the most important tips: 1) do NOT close your eyes and 2) do NOT move your head especially side to side and 3) look at the video in front of you. Follow these and you should have a great ride!

My husband can't handle big drops but he didn't have any problems on MS.

I was lucky that I didn't have any problems either. I liked it so much that I rode it 3 times! It is amazing.

Even if you follow all of the precautions about keeping your eyes open and staring at the screen and not moving your head, if you're prone to motion sickness I'm thinking you might still have a problem. My mother is not and she was sick for hours after riding and she did everything they said. So if you do get bad motion sickness, but really want to ride, maybe the end of the day would be better so that if you do get sick at least your day isn't ruined.

Thanks! I feel much better about riding it now. I can take being pushed back into my seat or spinning around really fast (I love simulators like BW or SW or even BTTF at Universal) and closed in spaces don't bother me. I am worried the G forces may feel like the take off on RnR which is about all I can handle. Linda
