Hello all, we are finally home from our whirlwind trip.
DH, the kidlets and I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who wrapped us in warmth and love during this most difficult time. While we are very sad about MIL's passing we are grateful that she didn't suffer or live, she would have been a shell. The lady we knew would have been gone from us either way, this way at least she is at peace and dancing with her DH again.
MIL passed of a hemorrhagic stroke and the Drs said there would be no recovery from it. She had just had her 77th birthday on the 26th too and DH said she was in good spirits, I was glad to know she had her wits about her in the final days.
The service was beautiful, we just had a grave side service since it was just the 6 of us, MIL's brother and his girlfriend, MIL's best friend, and MIL's former boss. It was very cold and windy so we kept it short. The pastor who spoke was the Chief Pastor for Veterans Affairs, very fitting since FIL was a soldier in WWII. The pastor was very kind and well spoken.
Everyone bent over backwards to help us out with day to day stuff. Even the staff at the hotel, as dumpy as it was, the people were just amazing. Especially the staff on Tuesday morning, the day of the service. They were so kind to the children. And they took extra special care of DH. I never realized how much I missed southern hospitality and the over all slower pace of life, it was wonderful.
We took the next few days to get in touch with people we had lost contact with in Atlanta, showed the kids where DS12 was born, ate Varsity hot dogs (a must do if you are ever in ATL) and drove all over on our way home. It was nice to decompress as a family unit. I'll have pics up later of the places we went.
A special thanks goes out to Lisa and Nancy, who kept me sane via text messages and who coordinated cards and gift cards for the trip. And to Lisa for keeping the home fires burning and making sure there was no indoor swimming pool in my basement (so far so good LOL). To those who sent cards, and money towards our gift cards, they were so much help especially during the late night drives, Starbucks rocks! and we used the visa gift card to buy the kids Mellow Mushroom pizza (another must have) and Varsity hot dogs. To PrincessNancy and PrinceNancy for staying up way past their bedtime to make sure we got home ok, she now has turn by turn directions to my house. LOL
And to everyone who keeps this part of the DIS a great place to come home too. I missed you guys somethin' awful!!! I did read here and there in the car via my phone but couldn't stay logged in.
DH and I will be busy until the end of the month packing up MILs belongings, we have to have all her stuff out by the end of February. I hope to be back on the DIS full time by March so keep my seat warm for me and stay out of trouble!

oh and I have reclaimed my southern drawl! LOL Y'all are in for a treat when you hear me talk.
