We are spending a week on the guld coast before our Disney trip. Going deep sea fishing for the fist time, any suggestions on what to bring along?

It will be the middle of Aug so I am not thinking a windbreaker but wuld you need it for water spray?

Gloved for reeling in?

SUNSCREEN!!!! In Aug you won't need a windbreaker unless it's just unusually cold. We went out last year Labor Day weekend and it was super hot. We never use gloves to reel in fish, never needed them. I would take plenty of water because being out in that sun all day will dehydrate you really fast. I don't know how my husband and FIL drink beer out there all day. We go to chick fil a and get one of the big platters of nuggets and keep them in a bag in the cooler and they are a great snack even cold.

Will you be on a commercial boat? We went out on one of them the first time I went fishing with my husband and family friends. There was 8 of us and the deck hand did everything, all we did was drop bait and reel them in. That was fun. We had a bathroom on that boat and a bunk area that we went and slept in on the ride back in. Now my FIL has his own boat so we do everything. He has 2 bean bag chairs that we throw down in the very back of the boat and that is some GOOD sleep on those things in the way out and back in! That's one of my favorite parts of fishing! lol

But to recap. Water and sunscreen! Comfortable clothes, I usually wear a tank top and shorts that will dry out fast if they get wet and shoes that won't slip on the deck, I usually go barefoot but my FIL wears crocs.

You should ask your charter what they are going to provide (license, fishing gear, bait?), like this info from a local boat:

Q: What do I need to bring with me?

A: Nothing. We provide you with a rod, reel, bait and tackle. You can buy hot fresh cooked food, beer, soda and snacks from the galley. We do recommend you bring the following. Sunscreen, sunglasses, visor or hat.

Since the water temp will be in the high 80's (one of the reasons hurricaes form at that time of year) then I don't know if I'd bother with a windbreaker unless the weather is bad, you are going to be out late or you are already so sunburned you can't stand any more sun (been there, done that )

My DH adds you should bring a camera and a cooler if you plan on keeping your catch. And just me, but I would say be sure and take some Bonine for sea sickness before you go, because if you get sick the trip will seem endless and no fun. :cutie:

This is something I'm dying to do one of these days. Taking notes from here.:thumbsup2

Advice from a Gulf fishing widow:

Get a UV ultralight long sleeve ventilated fishing shirt and UV ultralight ventilated fishing long pants that unzip into shorts.

You will need the protection from the sun, but also need cool clothes

Her are some examples of the type of shirt to buy. http://www.columbia.com/Women%E2%80%99s-Blood-and-Guts%E2%84%A2-Superlight%E2%84%A2-Long-Sleeve/FL7305,default,pd.html

Also, buy some buffs. These are just now coming into their own, but nothing feels better than a cool, wet buff over your hair! http://www.sahalie.com/jump.jsp?itemID=759&itemType=CATEGORY&path=1%2C2%2C5%2C759

Of course, you can also get neck wraps filled with cooling beads. Wet them down, wrap them around your neck. . .it's pure heaven.

Finally, wear ventilated water shoes, but don't forget to put lots and lots of suncreen on your feet!

Oh. About hats. Wear one. With a big brim. There are all sorts of ventilated hats these days, and straw and paper hats. Just wear one. I can send you pictures of the big divots they've taken out my DB's head due to skin cancer because he wouldn't wear a hat when he was younger.

Thsnks, that website helped with questions but I think we are going out on a "single" boat? They charge more for 3 people than 4 so Iam guessing they want to fill the boat up.

If you know anyone in the panama beach area that would be helpfu we have only started looking.

Puking dehydrates you really fast too! Sorry I couldn't resist. But that is one other thing to consider - people say you can get really sick. We're planning to do this for the first time, too, this summer and I plan to take along some Dramamine or some kind of medication for that, just in case. Don't know if it helps or not, but it can't hurt.

Sunscreen is probably about all you need. Your charter captain will tell you what you need to bring, but much of what you need will probably be provided including food and drinks

Make very sure you also bring along a lip balm with a high SPF factor. I have been slathered with suncreen, but gotten "sun poisoning" on my lips that turned into fever blisters. Not fun, at all.

And have fun!

I secong the lip balm and I'd also suggest dramamine. The only time my husband ever got seasick was when he was deep-sea fishing.
