I have been searching the boards for a description of the difference between a dedicated room VS a lock off. Also what are the advantages or disadvantages to either. People mention the type of room they are getting, but I do not understand the difference. Please help.

A 2-bedroom lockoff is a combination of a 1-bedroom and a studio. There is a connecting door between them. There will be two doors in to the room from the outside.

A 2-bedroom dedicated will have a real second bed room with two queen beds and no kitchenette. There will be only one door in to the room from the outside.

Advantage of a dedicated; two real beds in the second room

advantage of a lock-off; a couch for TV watching or game playing in the second room. Great for game players to be out of the main stream.

Many families with young children prefer the dedicated so that there is no exit to the outside from the second bedroom. Seems safer.

If you were to get a lock-off would it be possible to get two different sets of room keys with different charging, and ticket media etc.?

I didn't realize this. So is this true at Bay Lake? If I get the dedicated, I get two queens in the studio instead of a queen and sleeper sofa?

Thanks, Vicki

I don't know about BLT, but all 2 BRs do NOT have 2 Qs in the 2nd bedroom. We just stayed in one at BCV that was a queen and a sofa bed. There are SOME at BCV with 2 Queens. I think OKW is the only DVC resort that always has 2Qs in the second bedroom.

It should be true at BLT. One of the EPCOT resorts (BWV or BCV) has some dedicated 2 bedrooms with a queen/sleeper sofa...other than that all dedicated 2 bedrooms should have 2 Queens in the 2nd bedroom.

EDIT, it looks like from the previous post it is BCV that has some roque dedicated 2 bedrooms.

And the poster is correct, ALL OKW 2 bedrooms, dedicated and lock-off, have 2 queens, as all OKW studios have 2 queens.

ALL dedicated 2 bedrooms at all of the WDW DVC resorts, except for BCV, have 2 queens in the second bedroom.

At BCV, there are 25 dedicated 2 bedrooms with two queen beds in the second bedroom. The rest of the dedicated 2 bedrooms have one queen bed and one queen sleep sofa in the second bedroom. It's also possible to get a lock off two bedroom at BCV. The second bedroom of those have 1 queen bed and a double size sleep sofa.

BWV does not have any dedicated 2 bedrooms, they are all lock off units. BWV does have some dedicated studios and some dedicated 1 bedrooms, though.

can you book either a lock off or a dedicated 2 bed ?- or is it just a request that can't be guaranteed?:confused3:thumbsup2

It's an actualy booking. Usually they will book a dedicated 2 bedroom if they are available, and if not, they will tell you it is a lock off. You can also specify a lock off when you reserve.
