I was wondering why those who got their ears double- pierced decide to stop wearing earrings in the 2nd holes? Did it have anything to do with getting older and thinking it was a "young person's thing"?
Also, along this line of thinking...If you have your nose/belly button pierced (or tattoos) do you wonder what it will look like when you're 50+?

I have my ears double pierced and I still wear two earrings. I always keep small diamonds in my second holes as I like the way it looks. I am 2 weeks away from being 38 and I definitely don't think it is something I would attribute to being young as long as it is tasteful.

I just don't have enough earrings to warrant it--plus my ears are sensitive--unless it's pure gold...they don't like them.

Mostly it is forgetfullness---but when I want to wear two pairs--I can usually get the second pair in (though it may require minor repiercing efforts on the back side of the lobe as those seem to close just a smidge).

I would never get the latter--so don't have to worry about what it will look like when I am 50.

I had 3 ear piercings by the time I was probably 19 yo and I haven't purposely let any close up. I am 38 now and one of the top holes did close several years back when I didn't wear earrings very much (new babies!) I do wear earrings when I think about it and can get them in 5 holes (It hurt too much to force the 6th hole back through again!) But I don't really care too much anymore about wearing all those earrings so I will not have the closed one re-pierced.

I'm 35, and I keep plain gold studs in my second hole. I have not wanted them to close up, but I almost never put anything else in them (once a year maybe), but I like to keep them open in case I need them LOL.

i'm 37 and i just don't like it like I did in highschool. A couple years ago I decided to see if an earring would still go in and all the holes were still open. I have 5 by the way and they were loaded with earrings in the 80's. Now I rarely wear any. I've told my daughter that in regards to tattoos and different piercings - just remember you might get sick of them later on.

I still wear earrings in my second piercings but the third piercings closed up a few years ago. It wasn't that big of a deal to me to get them reopened because I figured if I wore earrings in them so little that they closed up then why bother.

I'm 25 and I have two holes. The top holes are teeny tiny because the hoops I wear in them - and never take out - are so small. I never take out either set of earrings, pretty much. I was actually just thinking I need to buy new earrings for the top holes because the hoops are very misshapen!

Mine are double pierced, and I love how it looks. I don't wear them all the time though.

48 years old, one ear double pieced on the bottom and cartilage pierced on the top. Other ear single pieced and no cartilage piercing. I wear diamond studs in the 2nd and cartilage piercing all the time and change the earring in the first piercing. I'm probably the only woman my age who has an "upper" earring on my one ear, but I like the look

I have doubles in both ears. Wear earrings most of the time so haven't had to worry about any closing up. I did have a third hole in one ear but never use it anymore. I didn't like where the girl did it when she pierced it.That hole is still 'open' though, and it was probably 20 years ago that I quit wearing an earring in it.
I would love to have the upper cartilage pierced but am too big of a wusssy to have it done

I turned 41 a few weeks ago and have 5 holes in 1 ear and 2 in the other. I only had singles up until about 5 years ago. I decided I wanted a top one and then that led to the rest through the years. The 5 in 1 ear I say are my Dcherubs and the 2 in the other I say are DH & I. I have all diamonds, both real and zirconia. I keep them 24/7 and take them out to clean them and my ears twice a week. Doesn't bother me in the least but I have thought that people will think this very pooh sized person is strange and too old to have that many holes. I just don't care though because it is the 1 thing I can truly say I like about myself and not feel fake! Different strokes for different folks I guess. :wizard:

I'm 43, and I can't wear earrings in the second piercings to work, but I put them in when I get home. I usually wear studs or very small hoops in the upper piercing and then something else (studs only for work) in the lower piercing.

I have one hole in my right ear and two in my left. They've been there since I was 17 and I'm 35 and still wearing 3 earrings every day. I expect I always will. :)

ok - first off...I have 9 holes in my right ear and 5 in my left ear. (Used to have more, I was up to 11/7 at one point - but due to infections, took some out/repierced some over time.) I took out all but the first earrings when I graduated from college and went interviewing. I looked...weird....naked almost without all my silver. I'd had most of these earrings since I was 18 and I just looked odd without them. So they all went back in after I landed my current job. (They have no problems with my earrings...) I pretty much keep silver hoops/mini-barbells/horseshoes in most of the holes except for 2, which are diamond earrings DH gave me.

DH says my ears pick up radio stations quite easily when we are traveling. heheh

I did have my eyebrow pierced in college...took that out after I graduated...I knew that was a "fun for now...but not in the real world" type thing.

I also pierced my navel in college (heheh - yes, it was a fun time.) I got this done specifically because I knew I'd be taking my eyebrow ring out...I still wanted something "funky" I could hide. I still have it pierced...but I'm guessing that once I have a baby, that will come out...maybe for good. Depends on if I can get back into shape afterwards. I know it's kinda 'passe' now...but I like it.

I also have a tatoo...which is hidden 90% of the time (lower back, near the pant line). Yeah, I might look kinda funny at 60 years old with a martini tatoo on my back, but it represents alot to me.

I have double piercings but only wear earings in one set because I don't have any good earings to wear in the other holes.

As for belly button piercings, I got one when I was 18 and had to take it out a few months later because after I got married we got pregnant and belly button rings and a belly stretched beyong belief don't mix well. So if you have piercings now that would be silly at 50 take them out. :flower1: If it weren't for kids I'd have mine for as long as DH liked it.

My Mother is 49 and she still wears earrings in her double holes.
I am 29 and had 3 in my left ear and 2 in my right but I let those close up less than a year after I did it (I was 16 or 17) because I didn't feel like dealing with all the earrings.

Okay, I have 10 holes in my ears (combined from both) a tattoo and my belly button pierced. I just did the tat and belly button when I was 26 & 27... and nope, I wear everything and am willing to show off everything... doubt that will change as I get older too ;)

:smooth: rock on

I had 3 holes in one ear and 1 in the other. I took out 2 of them - the extra piercing and the upper piercing both in the same ear. The upper piercing was done at a weird angle so no one could see it anyway. Plus, I sleep on my side and could feel it every night. I took out the second lower piercing because I wanted to simplify.

I have 2 tattoos also. I can't say that thinking about what they would look like at 50, 70, or 100 years old would have made me change my mind. I got them for my own pleasure and I don't care what they'll look like in 25+ years from now. They could be faded, sagging, and distorted, but I'm sure I'll remember that they were once vibrant and beautiful.
