Dedicated or Lock-off for WLV 2-br

DH picked WLV for our April's trip. We probably will stay at Dolphin for the first 2 nights (weekends) (not sure, did not like it last week while there, but the nights are FREE), before we check into WLV.

I checked Sandy's room locations and got the impression that the some of the lock-off 2-br seem to have better locations with lake view, while the dedicated seem to have all woods view except one.

We just have my 2 little kids and my mother so I can really do either.

Should I change it to a lock-off?

Also, asking the experts for opinion. We are departing on Saturday and currently I only have a reservation at WLV until Friday. I got a member discount for Friday but it is $520 plus tax, while the weekend pt is 75 pts or something. I dont' want to move for the last night while I feel with close to $600 (after tax), I can probably get a nice hotel even for 2 rooms, but with a move. What would you do?

Thanks so much.

Hi, lat. We have always got a 2br dedicated, and were always happy with the view. Once we came close to a dumpster view, but it was still good.
Most views are of woods, and some you can catch a glimpse of Bay Lake. We had a dedicated 2br on the fifth floor, and we could see the lake through a 'V' in the trees. It was an awesome view.
If you decide to switch, it will be no problem as long as MS still has them available.

Keep in mind that many here who have small kids prefer the dedicated, as there is not a door to the hall in the second bedroom.

Good luck!

MG,

Thanks very much for the reply. I think I will keep the dedicated, it never hurts to have 1 extra bed. Thanks again.:D

We had a dedicated 2 br last trip and requested a dedicated one again for this august. We had a woods view, we were about 2/3 of the way down the hall from the elevators, but it was a very peaceful setting.

FWIW - We requested a dedicated 2 bedroom near the pool and ended up on the 3rd floor in the corner unit overlooking the pool - 3519. It was a really fantastic room and we didn't have to worry about an extra door with the baby.

lat, we had a 2BR Dedicated 2 summers ago and it was either 3rd or 4th floor right above the pool looking over Bay Lake (kind of a narrow view though). Just perfect, although they tried to give us the dumpster view area first, just asked do you have anything else? No idea what to recommend for Friday night. Have fun AGAIN.

We had a gorgeous view of the bay and pool from our dedicated 2 br room at VWL -- room 4507. But this is confusing to me. For some reason Sandy's notes list this as a lock-off, but it was very much a dedicated when we were there in 2002, with 2 queen beds in the 2nd BR. Also, I recall that the balcony extended from the living room to the 2nd br, not towards the 1br as listed. I recall this because we blocked off our balcony door in the 2nd BR so that our 2 yr old wouldn't go out on balcony without us, and we noted we DIDN'T have to block off anything in master br where we were letting my SIL/BIL and their 2 yr old stay -- no door there, just a window. THe door to the second br was a single door, no kitchenette in 2nd br, and no outside access door! And when you walked into the room -- you were looking directly out at the quiet pool, and out onto the lake. We watched the EWP every night from our room!

I double-checked my little folder they gave me at check-in (I'm a pack rat!) and it says "4507" on it, so I'm pretty sure that was our room for 9 wonderful days.... not sure why the map and room reports are indicating it wasn't. Am I not reading something right? The outside access door, to me, would be a pretty hard thing to change, and there wasn't one, so I don't think it's the sort of thing DVC could easily "convert"!

In any case, I'd take that room in a HEARTBEAT, any time! Especially as I look outside at snow... AGAIN! Ughhhhh....

I have a dedicated 2 bedroom for my May trip. My only request was non-smoking because of my daughter's asthma. Hopefully I will not get the dumpster view! I am planning to ask for a bayside / poolside room as the date draws closer.

We had the points dilemma too. I decided to splurge and stay at DVC on the weekend. We were already splitting our stay between VWL and BWV (DH wanted an Epcot resort...kids wanted MK - we compromised) so I couldn't face moving AGAIN!!!!

I had to borrow to the max for this trip.

we stay in room 4508. This looks out over Mickey's topiary holding the sign. Not quite the woods, but quiet and nice, and a cool balcony. It is also smoke-free (my biggest request)

We had that same room as Maistre Gracey....it is room 5553. However, my favorite was a dedicated 2BR room 2535. You could see a bit of the quiet pool and hear that great VWL music from the balcony!

Why did you not like the Dolphin? We have never stayed there so that is why I am asking. We might stay there this summer as we are using our points for another trip in December. Just asking. Would you have liked the Swan better? Thanks.

Wow, we also stayed in this villa. :) I really liked it, but I do wish the trees were a little shorter so you could see more of the lake. :)

::yes::

Here are some pictures of the dedicated two bedroom for those of you thinking about staying in one: http://community.webshots.com/album/112837361dnsLZn These villas are very nice, they are large (I'm anxious to see an OKW villa, since they're even larger) and comfortable. :) Now I'm getting anxious to return to VWL! I'd definetly get a dedicated 2BR again next time. ;)

It is personal preference. We liked it the first time when we went last May at Swan Club Level. However, the 2nd time, I took my whole family (11 people including my parents and my brother's family) and stayed Swan (did not want to move while could not eat the high holiday points) for 6 nights. I did not care for it much at all. It is just a hotel, a high rise relative to Disney resorts.

We moved from Poly to Portofino (missed Disney while there) and then back to Swan. I wish I were still at Poly or any other Disney resorts when I was checking in.

Again, there is really nothing wrong with Swan/Dolphin and I know there are people who would only stay there, but they are just not for me.

I rented out our original reservations to others at the Boardwalk and I was really regretting everytime I walked by BWV.

DH said that I am a Disney snob, so be it. I am even thinking about trying POFQ rather than free rooms at the Swan/Dolphin, or maybe AKL concierge. Waiting for the discount code.

We're taking DH's family (19 in all if no one backs out!) in June and we have reserved two dedicated 2BR and 1 studio. We wanted to get 3 - 2BR, but the points were more than we could do. We had to bank and borrow to do this! We're hoping they can all be close together and with a good view. We hope to avoid the dumpster view rooms - can someone remind me which rooms to ask not to get?
