Dedicated December Exercise Thread

Ok. I'm in for 1000 minutes. Mainly because it will make it easy for me to calculate my percentage! Ha! Good luck to everyone.

I'm also trying to detox a bit given some serious sweets and treats indulgence over the last weekend. So I've created the 12 Days of Salads diet. Tonight's was Greek. I've also chopped up all my veggies for the week so it will be easier to stick to it. Hopefully that and healthy snacks and lunches/breakfasts will have me feeling ready for our trip in... 17 days!

What a cute idea - the 12 Days of Salads diet! Good for you!

You've got my goal right ...

.. but my total now needs some updating. I got in an additional 38 minutes of walking tonight, putting me at

110/1000

Am I the first one to hit 10%?
If all my days are like this, I should hit goal soon ... but I know they won't be (today was just a very active day for me).

You are!!! Congrats :)

I have everyone updated to here :)

I did an aquafit class tonight so I'm at 100/1575 now!

So what's one tradition that you have during the holidays that you are dedicated to always doing?!

When I was a kid we celebrated on Christmas Eve and we would have a feast and then go to midnight mass and come home and open our presents and stay up until the weeeee hours of the morning. Now since we don't go to midnight mass we couldn't have Santa come Christmas Eve when we were home so I let the kids open up one Christmas Eve present and they love going through all the gifts under the tree to decide which one they should choose! I also make sure we always do something that involves seeing Christmas lights on Christmas Eve.

good morning.

Please put me down for 28/1000

hhmmm...I don't know if I have that one holiday tradition as they always seem to be evolving based on the kid's ages and whatnot. I think that there are probably small traditions that I don't even realize, food that must be prepared and eatten, movies that must be watched (hello, White Christmas) songs that have to be sung, etc.

figment1990 - love the salad idea. Needless to say, I stepped on the scale this morning and while I can't say I was surprised, I was a bit dismayed. I've been mindlessly stress eatting for about a month (since my boss took an unexpected leave at work) and that needs to come to a halt.

SarahDisney - congrats on your awesome activity day yesterday!!

155/1500
That's a swim, a walk then today class and a walk.

Hmmm. No reallll traditions. Only one person at a time can open presents Christmas morning and we all watch then move on to the next person. We just go around and around until everything is open. DS#2's birthday is mid month (as is my father's) so we don't decorate until after birthdays. Oh, I know! Our three kings wander around the house and don't make it to the cradle until January 6th, and the baby doesn't arrive until Christmas morning.

Everybody is off to a great start. Keep up the good work!

75 minute yoga class yesterday and 30 minutes on the dreadmill today. 105/1000

We have a few traditions. My favorite is Christmas Eve, we celebrate at my mom and dads house with my dads extended family. The party goes until about midnight, sometimes later?! Since the kids were very young we have always given them new PJ's about 10pm. That way they could change, enjoy the rest of the party in comfort and go straight to bed once we got home.

I'm in for 1500 minutes this month. 2TxAgs. Congratulations on your pr. I was out of connection the past week and just caught up on the November thread today. 30 min run Monday 45 min elliptical 75/1500 Thanks for hosting.

I guess my main tradition is making a new Christmas stocking each year for everyone. Then I decorate the house with the past stockings of everyone living in our house. I send my daughter's family theirs to open on Christmas morning at their house. Our tradition is they don't get to see the current one till Christmas morning, so that meant a lot of late night sewing and hiding when they were small. The grands have loved guessing what will be next and having me show which ones were from when their mom was small. I love Christmas. :)

That's a great idea! Any interesting salad recipes you have to share?

Tonight's salad was provolone, turkey pepperoni, mushrooms w romaine lettuce and oil and vinegar. It was good but probably not my favorite. My favorite is coming up- goat cheese, walnuts, an cranberries on spring mix. I forgot to buy the goat cheese though- so it will have to wait til I can get back to the store. Probably Friday. Tomorrow I have a fundraiser to go to, so it will probably be a regular side salad with whatever meat they offer on the buffet. With a side of wine... Heehee. Thursday I'm planning on grilled chicken, avocado, tomatoes, and blue cheese.

I did get 25 minutes of exercise in last night- so my current total is 25/1000. I'm planning to work out as soon as DH gets home so hopefully ill add to that total.

As for traditions, hmmm. We have several. DH and I always put the lights on the tree and wrap Christmas presents while we watch Christmas vacation. DS is too young to watch it so we try to do this on a Friday night, along w having some festive wintertime beer. We laugh every year an recite many lines! I like to get all the presents out and spread them all over the floor before wrapping. It looks crazy! I also like to watch a holiday movie while I write out my Christmas cards and drink baileys. On Christmas Eve, we go out to a fancy dinner w my parents and sister and grands, and then go back to my moms to exchange family gifts and eat cookies. We have gone to the children's mass before that for the last few years but this year we will be flying home from Disney that day so the candlelight processional will sort of substitute. I miss going to midnight mass though and can't wait for DS to be old enough to go. Christmas morning we get up too early, open gifts, and then I take my "Christmas nap" while DS plays and DH makes breakfast. Love this holiday!!!

Also missing from this years holiday bc of our trip is our Christmas Eve Eve party that we have the night before Christmas Eve. My sis and I throw it at my house and invite all our friends, DS's friends, my parents friends and our extended family. It's a lot of fun. A lot of work but worth it. This year were having a small new year eve party instead.

Please put me down for 1000 again. I thought about it, and even with the show next week I can do this. It will be tight, but I'm determined. Now if only I don't get a cold or anything again this month to impact my efforts. That's what happened last month...I had to skip a whole week but I still made it to 1000 so I'm determined to do it again even though I won't be working out next week because of work hours (15-16 hour days, yikes!).

Oh holiday traditions...I have to have homemade potato latkes at least once every year on Hanukkah. My mom, my sister and I all make them the same way as my grandfather made them, and nothing compares. I can't eat them in a Jewish restaurant. It's never as good. I don't mean to brag, but my family can do some serious cooking!

That's just one tradition. Another is that we always go to the same family friend on Christmas. We share our holiday with them, and they share theirs with us. My father grew up with this man, and our families are very close, we really ARE family! And my sister and I grew up with their kids, and now our kids are growing up with each other. They live an hour and a half away but we always make time to see each other. And Christmas is a huge tradition for all of us. Lots of fun and lots of laughs! :)

I love reading everyone's traditions! This board is the best.

Did 45 minutes of cardio and abs tonight so 70/1000.

34 additional minutes - mostly riding a bike at the gym

62/1000

Was hoping for a snow day today. No school in our district due to icy roads but the college is still open. Time to pull on my boots and get this day started.

Hope everyone has a good one.

42 minutes walking for me last night.
I knew I was going to miss my bus, so I took some time to walk around the area instead of going straight to the bus stop ... gave me a chance to see the windows at Macy's (the big Macy's on 34th street, of Thanksgiving Day Parade fame, has a holiday window display every year) and the tree in Bryant Park.

152/1000

I love reading about everyone's holiday traditions!
We don't really have many because we're not big holiday people. We almost always have duck on Chanukah, and my mom makes homemade potato latkes (I actually made them one year - wearing boots because I didn't want the oil to splash on my feet). Other than that, nothing much.

90 minutes total gym and walking. Lots of arm work, too. 90/900

Living in NY lends itself to a variety of traditions at Christmas. We try to see the Rockefeller Center tree every year these days..Tonight is the tree lighting BTW.. as kids my girlfriends and I would travel in from Queens every year ( in our finest clothes) to go to Radio City Music Hall. My kids went once or twice, the sticker shock of the prices in the 80s was enough to make that a special treat by the time they were old enough to go. Church used to be Midnight Mass, until we all started getting married and having kids, then we went to that in-laws on Christmas Eve, and my side of the family came to my house on Christmas. We go to the late Mass, after opening presents, and eat a late dinner. Now the next generation has started having kids, so things are changing again!

I love that!! I ordered Disney stockings for everyone this year as a surprise :)

I love reading how everyone celebrates their holidays!

I've updated to here :)

I did an hour long walk last night and today was a walk and aquafit class which brings me to 250/1575

It's looking like a sea of blue, we're off to a great start!
