Decoupage question! HELP!

I am going to try my first decoupage project and I have a question. I am going to try a clipboard for autographs. I want to put both my daughters names on the back of the clipboard. I was thinking of using the crystal name stickers.

So, should I put MP over the crystals once I stick them on? Or will that turn them dull? I am worried that if I don't put something over them, they will pop off. BUu if it dulls them , I will do something else.

Also, do most people do their clipboards with matte or glossy finish MP? Does it matter or is it just aesthetics?
