No, I'm not actually using the fireants as decorations. I'm trying to dodge them while I decorate for Halloween. I can't believe how many of them there are in my yard. They live under woodchips in the flowerbeds as well as in big mounds. When I find the mounds, I put fireant killer on them. It is just impossible to get rid of the others. So far today, I've not been bitten. I'm sure it is just a matter of time. Wish me luck...I'm going back out!

I don't understand why we don't have fire ants down here. I'm forever walking around outside barefoot and I have yet to have had a close encounter. I'm not complaining mind you.

BTW, nice picture. :)

We are being taken over by the little lizards (I know they have a name, but I forgot it!!) They are absolutely everywhere and are getting into our lanai so I can never leave the door open...I would have a complete heart attack if one got in the house.

We have not seen too many fire ants but we have some fire ant killer just in case, I heard they can be nasty!

I HATE friggen fire-ants. Working construction I used to step into mounds all the time. Thousands of the little boogers would crawl up my legs. Then one would blow a whistle and they'd all bite me at the same time! More then once I was pantless out on a interstate mooning drivers while beating my legs.

I don't care if it kills my grass. If I have a fire-ant mound I pour lighter fluid on it and return the favor with a match. If I don't have lighter fluid, I just pee on 'em.

Did I mention I HATE 'em?

We put down the Over and Out particles in the spring and haven't had any fireants for about three years now. Occasionally I will see a mound in the neighbors yard close to my fence that I will quickly treat and then they go away.

1 more reason for me to stay put in MN!! FL is nice to visit but hell if I am going to live there, LOL!!!! :earseek:

Who makes it?

Bleech...fire ants! Been stung 4 times now. The "bite" lasts for at least a month and it is ugly!

They are all over our backyard now. We bought some Scotts Turf Builder with Fire Ant Killer to put down this weekend.

I don't know who makes it. It is sold in blue bags at Home Depot and Lowes (where I usually buy it). I think it is 20lb bags and we need roughly 4.5 bags to fully cover our yard.

I hate fire ants. My younger DD was been bitten by them twice this summer. OT, love the new picture in your signature.

I managed to finish putting out my decorations without getting bit. I almost had a heart attack though. There was something on the sidewalk and it was covered in ants. My dog goes over and lays on it!! I grabbed him by the collar and pulled him off. I had to knock a few ants off of him, but he didn't get bit.

I need to get some Over and Out. I bought this other stuff, but it doesn't get rid of them. If I put in on a mound, they just move and build it somewhere else. I can't believe the number of ants out there!

I have also noticed a huge increase in the number of the little lizards recently. I had to get one out of the house the other day. The cat was playing with it. Unfortunately, the cat must have damaged him. He died on my back sidewalk. You guessed it! Pretty soon, he was covered in ants. When they got done, there was nothing left but his little skull and backbone. I always tell my DD not to lie down outside. You won't last long! LOL!

I hate fire ants.

My kids can't even sit or lay down in the grass like they could up North.

We have a ton of little lizards, too. We've also got snakes (and some cute little baby snakes), turtles and legless lizards (they look like snakes.)

Oh, the joys of living in Florida. ;)

My best friend has a little yorkie puppy. He was out playing in the grass and got in fire ants and We had to rush him to the animal hospital. Fire ants can have the same reaction to some people and animals that a bee sting does. Poor puppy was in shock. She nearly had to leave him overnight because of those stupid things. I HATE them!!!
