Hi all - We are staying in one of the cabins on our upcoming trip :cool1: , and I'd really love to somehow decorate the outside of it so it would be distinct-looking as compared with all the others. (Just seems like it would be fun to drive up on the golf cart after a long day out and have it all lit up somehow.) Anyway, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this. DH has always been in charge of exterior illumination at our house, and he's not going on this trip. In fact, I'll be flying in by myself with 3 kids in tow so it needs to be pretty easy to do. I was thinking rope lights, but when I looked the up online, they looked like something you can't just plug in - you needed some sort of converter or something else that looked much more challenging than I am looking for. Also, I can't figure out how much I would need to make it cute.

Does anone have any thoughts on how I can best pull off some easy, cute and cheap decorations and, if so, where do I get them and how much do I get? Or, am I just living in Fantasy Land by thinking this is something easy for me to do? The one thing that may make it a little easier is the fact that even if it's kind of bulky, I still ought to be able to get it down there by sending it down with my parents in their trailer.

Any thoughts will be very much appreciated! Looking forward to looking for y'all over Memorial Day weekend!

Leslie

PS - I do have the big green Mickey head that BDR made for me some time ago - I'm definitely planning to put that in a window, but I'd love to have some lights too....

Hi,

Gee personally I think you'll only be limited to what you can pack since you'll be flying. I have rope lights and all I have to do is plug them in to an outlet. :) And, you'll have an outlet at your cabin to do the outside illuminations.
Heck, one year my family and I had three cabins for our Chrsitmas vacation and my only responsibilty was to bring the decorations. My car didn't even have room to bring my own suitcases! We had blow ups, christmas lights, a christmas tree, I also decorated the inside of the cabins and I even decorated two golf carts! I worked 5 hours straight to get it all done the day we arrived.
Now, that DH and I are camping with our 5th wheel my job is also to decorate the campsite (cause' I was told I did such a good job before- humm...yeah right.) Anyway, you should plan out what you want to do. Go online a get a picture of the outside of the cabin. Do you want to decorate the steps, hand rail and the deck or just the grassy area next to your cabin? Then, lay everything out and plan out how much extension cords you think you'll need and how many multi-outlets your gonna need based on how much you'll be decorating (otherwise you maybe limlited to the only outside outlet the cabin has).
Decorating is pretty easy...if you'll be coming during a holiday it's even easier cause' you can bring stuff themed to that holiday. Otherwise, clear christmas lights do not seem to be out of the question at anytime of the year at FW. You can create a door sign to hang on the outside of your cabin door (lighted or non-lighted). Disney themed window clings are easy enough to pack. Disney themed flags and signs seem to be popular and it's real easy to make a Mickey rope light icon. Though it maybe tough to fly with.

Hope this helped some....:thumbsup2

I don't know if you would be interested in this but if you go over to the creative design board there are folks there that can do you personalized designs for your windows and door, you might check them out and do a few personalized things that you can pack in your suitcase.

Thanks for your thoughts! Mmketer, do you have any suggestions about where to buy rope lights? I'm clearly not looking in the right place, as they don't appear to be regular plug-in lights. I've only looked online, though. Do they sell them at Home Depo or Lowes when it isn't Christmas? We're going in May, and I unfortunately didn't think about this till after the holidays.

Transportation of the lights isn't a problem. We have family that is driving that I can send them down with.

Thanks again!

Leslie

Often the home centers will have the white ones in the garden dept all year for decks and such. The colored ones could be a little harder to find. They usually plug one end into a receptical and then they will string end to end by removing the plug and just screwing the ends together. I think you can string 3 or 4 in a row (check the directions).

Thanks! I'm going to go look this weekend.
