I want to put a board on top of the stove (the black shows too much dust and who cooks in this house anyway!)

Should we stick with the lighter color or go with the cherry color?

The picture will also show the color of the floor.

I’d stick with the lighter color. The closer it blends in with counter and wall colors the better imho.

Have you considered black? I also saw that they make “covers” for stoves for that reason.

One other thought - could this be a fire hazard?
I don't know....it's an electric stove if that matters.

I just looked around, they sell the stove covers at Amazon, WalMart, Lowes, etc., and run about $20-30.

I think black would look most natural for your set-up.
I agree with black

but figured they didn’t like it because dust was mentioned.

Black would just blend in stove. I don’t like the cherry because even though it matches the cabinets, the placement will stand out.

What is the purpose? Simply to show less dust? I think a board on top of the stove looks odd in any color.
I’ve seen boards like this with stenciled words, etc. not a plain board. The ones I’ve seen have “feet” that rest on the stovetop.

It is a fire hazard. I had my ugly apartment stove covered for a while but I took it off when I read about them being a fire hazard. Years ago I had a hand-me down stove from my MIL when I was first married, and after a power outage something happened to the electric starter and it would randomly try to ignite, we got it fixed of course but that made me think about how it could happen to any stove at any time, and if there is a big flammable piece of wood on top of the stove when it happens that's going to be really bad. So I would encourage the OP to be careful. I still use my cover as extra counter space but I never walk away and leave it on the stove.

I would worry about a fire too. Would go with the colour of your counter any other colour would stick out Or black to match the stove but you already got that.
