Decluttering / Spring Cleaning

I declutter a lot. Be CAREFUL. I was decluttering before we went on our cruise in January and I came across something that looked like an old retainer. It wasn't. It was DS#3s mouth guard. He needs it for sleep. When we got home, he asked if I had seen it. It still didn't "click" until after the garbage truck came and went. I think that I really did throw it out! :scared1: Believe me, if it had clicked I would have gone through that trash. $520 later, he has another mouth guard. I could kick myself. It wasn't taking up that much room.

Oh No! I am really afraid of throwing out something by accident. That was an awfully expensive lesson to learn huh?

Wow, I'm MOVING and having a major yard sale next week... I'm getting tired just THINKING about it!

My son's friends are coming over to help me go thru my shed and whatever I don't need or want will be in the yard sale. Whatever doesn't sell goes to Freecycle or eBay.

It'll be a chore but a good one. I lOVE decluttering!!!

:goodvibes We just put our house ont he market so the last few months every nook and crany has been cleaned and painted (but for closets) within the last year. The house looks so nice, too bad the storage unit got all the clutter.:rotfl:

Every fall we have an amnesty day. It is on garbage day You pay for two bags of garbage and everything over that is no charge.

It is entertaining driving thru the neighborhood that day.

Do remember when you went to the circus where they had the tiny little car and two dozen clowns came out of it.

Well one year the house across the street was like that little car. We stood in the window watching bag after bag come out of that house.

I am really in the mood too - I haven't gotten a good handle on it -- just a few things here and there but reading these posts is inspiring me to get at it!

Here and there is a good start though. :) My issue now is that we are not taking the stuff to Goodwill until next week, so I have bags & bags of things here waiting to go. I just hate seeing the bags sitting there.

I do the same thing. I have a huge yard sale pile in my garage - I think it's been there for a year! This thread has inspired me. I think I'm going to start the the three junk drawers in my kitchen!

I was going to start to clean next week but you've all inspired me to start tonight. I'm really ready to purge, my house depresses me.

I kid you not.....I have one of the kid's rooms we can't use because it's piled so high with toys and clothes.

Free Cycle will be glad to hear from me next week.

Why do we hold onto stuff?

Why do we hold onto stuff?

I wish I knew. I would do it a whole lot less if I did.

Just a funny thing I threw away. We had a phone that some of the numbers didn't work. It was so terrible we had to get a new phone. Husband put it back in the cabinet "in case we needed it". Why would I need a phone that had numbers that didn't work? The worst part is that the numbers that didn't work were the 5, 7, and 9. All the phone prefixes where I live start with 5. I can't call 911 because the 9 won't work.

Hi there de-clutter bugs!

Well, we have been purging, washing, putting away clothes for 2 full days!:scared1: We have 4 big bags to donate so far. I've found great things I totally forgot I had and DH has 3 "new" pairs of pants! Woo Hoo! LOL!

If our camera worked I would have taken before and after pictures. We could give the worst clutter bugs hope.:)

Thanks, OP, for starting this thread. I decided Saturday to get rid of a "few clothes". I have three giant garbage bags and have just started. I love getting rid of stuff; it is so liberating!

Why do we hold onto stuff?

Well, it's mostly due to "in case" in my house - but if the "in case" hasn't happened in over a year - either it won't or you'll be able to afford it again if it does. My roomie has boxes and boxes of "in case" stuff that I'm slowly talking them into donating/recycling. Especially clothes and grammar school memoirs. Do you really need 30+ drawings, letters, papers, articles, etc? How about your most favorite from a year? I'm the purger of the two of us - we're polar opposites (as I should probably keep more) - but I think it balances nicely.

So far....I have the kitchen drawers done (why was I holding on to broken knifes and laddles from 15 years ago??), the living room closet (organized all the family pictures into photo boxes instead of envelopes and got all the game pieces to the correct game), the bench we use for toys downstairs (threw away all broken toys, got a pile for donation and who knows why someone poured a whole bottle of fish flakes in the bench, we don't have a fish :confused3 ), cleaned out the drawers on our coffee table and organized them, organized the DVD cabinet, cleaned out the mud room (big ol' box of donations in there), cleaned out the guest room, cleaned out most of my cupboards (have some to go, but found sippies and baby stuff I didn't even know I still had) and now I'm starting on the downstair bathroom.

My family comes tomorrow for Easter so I'll take a break on the cupboards....gotta have the spots they see clean :lmao:

Oh yeah and I washed some windows because it was so nice here today.

Remember www.freecycle.org for giving away stuff that is still good.

You can put it at the curb and post that or you can advertise an item and choose who to give it to.
