Decline of MGM?

I tend to agree. Without the working studio or animation being based there, I think more needs to be done to keep the park fresh and current. Streets of America isn't particularly exciting, and losing the majority of the Backlot Tour was depressing. I still haven't seen LMA though.

I think new attractions or new shows need to come in. B&B and Indy are cool, but we skip them now, because we've seen them so many times.

This was my thought too after our May trip. Millionaire was our favorite family thing at MGM. Basically, we will just go for ToT, RnRC, and Fantasmic! Oh well, it gives us more time for the other 3 parks!

Wasnt the Lucy stuff always at Universal? :confused3

I agree about that theater though. Ive been going for years and years and years - and cant even remember seeing anything in there. I wasnt interested in Doug.

It's a nice building to sit on the steps, though. Maybe thats what theyre going for. ;)

not only are the rides etc a big dissapointment- so is the food- the ony place that is really worth while is the brown derby and now you have to use 2 credits for that!

I don't think that the closing of Millionaire shows the decline of MGM...The one at California Adventure closed months ago. I think it is more an issue of MGM trying to stay current. The Millionaire TV show does not enjoy the popularity it once did (the Regis days), and I am sure the attraction suffers as a result. There are plenty of "anchor" attractions (ToT, RnR, Fantasmic, LMA, Star Tours, etc) that I think they can afford to shake it up every once and a while. IMHO.

We actually love MGM. We aren't into the thrill rides and have small kids so we do the attractions like Little Mermaid, B&B, Muppets, etc...
To us the parade is the best, we never miss it. We like Fantasmic, but skipped it the last 2 trips. Also, the shopping there is the best and we can't miss the villain store. I disagree with there not being good places to eat besides the BD. While we don't like any of the counter service places, we love 50's PTC, Mama Melrose and Sci Fi for their onion rings and burgers!

Having said all that I would also like to see something new there!

I love Millionaire. THe word on the boards is that it will be replaced with a Spiderman type IOA ride. IT is a very good ride, but I'd rather see something like Sounds Dangerous or that overrated Beauty and the BEast show go instead.

how bout a new POTC stage show with lots of choreographed swordfighting, or a new incredibles ride like frozones' ice coaster, or a monster inc ride with sulley and mmike like the door chase sequence!

I must respectfully disagree. The Studios remain one of my favorite places at WDW. As a solo traveler, the park has many attractions that I really enjoy. The only slight problem I have is with making my personal plan for the day because of conflicting show starting times. But once I have that worked out, and my dinner reservation made at the Brown Derby, I'm all set for a great day.

I start with the Tower and end with the Christmas lights. A great day if you ask me.

Enjoy.

I also respectfully disagree.
My family really enjoys MGM. We were there 2 weeks ago and it was one of our more enjoyable days.
To a previous poster - the Narnia attraction is currently open.

My family enjoys MGM, its not our favorite but then with Disney theme parks, being not a favorite is all relative! I happen to love Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast as well as TOT and RNRC. I also think it has two of the funnest and most uniquely themed restaurants: Sci Fi and Prime Time. I do think they need some better cs options. I also think some really good add on's would be the Monsters Inc. Ride they have at California Adventure, that is an awesome, up to date, dark ride that would be a huge hit I am sure. Also I think replacing the Indiana Jones Stunt show with the Indiana Jones ride they have at Disneyland would be a great addition.

DisneyQuest is closing? WHEN?? Will it still be open 1st week of September?

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, but this is news to me!

Here's what has been written about ANOTHER Disney attraction closing: "What was once supposed to have been the flagship of an entire chain of 30 indoor theme parks, one that would have eventually encircled the globe, DisneyQuest will be closing in 18 months. Then this 5-story tall, 100,000 square foot structure -- which towers over the West Side section of Downtown Disney -- will be gutted & turned into a brand-new ESPN Zone."

Now keep in mind that IS as of the beginning of 2008. But what is funny only to me is that after all these years of going to Disney, I have YET to go to Disney Quest. With little ones I was told it wasnt good for them, and that I should wait. But an ESPN Zone?? Who want's another of those?? Can Disney PLEASE come up with better rides?? Someone this thread mentioned a Monster's Inc. ride.. What I great idea!!

When I first visited this park last summer, I actually enjoyed it. However, I do see many things that need to be changed in order to keep it's popularity. One would be the themes. Disney Studios should have a 'Studio' type of feel to it. But I no longer see it or notice it. I know it is not an actual working studio any longer; however, it should still have "Hollywood" type of feeling.

I have noticed much talk of a 5th park rumor. It is a rumor and many suggest if they ever open another park it be centered around the Disney Villians. Well, I just though of something. I know this would never happen, but it would be intresting to see Disney Studios had a "Villian Theme" inside the park instead of creating an additional park (If it ever happened.) Like Magic Kingdom has it's different sections, why can't MGM have the same? I think by taking out the Back Lot Tour, or some other section of the park and adding a Villian theme would add much to the parks feel.

They could have:
- A 3D show featuring all the Disney Villians
- A Villian themed intense coaster - [Reign of Fire] Featuring Jafar or something?
- Something like Magic Kingodoms "Dumbo" for the children. Instead have a giant Ursula from the Little Mermaid with her legs as moving objects? [ i really like this idea.]
- A Gift Shop [I think they may already have one.]
- And last but not least a resturant. [Captain Hooks?]

This is just my opinion, and I understand it will never happen. But I do think it would help add much needed attractions to MGM. :cool1:

Personally I have no problem with Millionaire closing, as the show has become dated to say the least. I am eager to see the experience the technology of the new ride that will replace it (Midway Mania, or whatever the name ultimately becomes). With that said, two of my favorite thrill rides still remain: Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Yay for the shocker! :lmao:

Everyone experiences his or her own WDW. My older DBiL and his wife joined us for the week between Christmas and New Year. After day #1 at MK and day #2 at EPCOT, we started day #3 at Starring Rolls. He was so exicited. As a fan of the movies if the 30s and 40s, he was taken completely by the theming at the MGM entrance and stores. He announced "Now I get this whole thing! Ok, now I get DisneyWorld!" :yay:

I haven't read past the OP, but I find this quite funny.

I have two little ones - meanign more MK geared - lately I have enjoyed MGM more and more...and I HATED this park. But I love the slow pace, the can see what we want when we want feel...over 4th of July we walked in to Fantasmic, made last minute ADR's for Brown Derby, rode several rides and had a grand time!

I love MGM... I like the restaurants and the shows and of course the thrill rides. I did not go there since 2004, and I can't wait to see the new show there now...
On the other side, I'm pleased :bitelip: that I'm going back in 2007, since I read on here that they are closing Disney Quest.... my son wanted to do that on our last trip, but we did not have the time... so happy that he will get to go before they close down.

OMG- if i have to see that dated "ocean" show before getting on Backlot Tour one more time i think i will die. :faint:

DH and i totally skip it now and off to the tram--- but even THAT is getting so boring.

why cant they update the things?

In my opinion, I think they need to completely redo mgm studios. A new name, new shows, new attractions, except keep TOT, RNRC and Fantasmic. I think Disney needs to upgrade some and throw in some more roller coasters. They certaintly do not have enough. Do half and half. Some junior roller coasters for everyone to ride and some more grown up ones like RNRC. Magic Kingdom is more based for kids and families, while MGM is supposed to be based for teenagers and adults. Turn it into something like universal studios type thing, but have all disney themes. Like have a ride or coaster based after the Narnia movie. They could very easily change the name to Disney Studios and have all the rides based after disney movies. Like Finding Nemo, Incredibles, Monster Inc, maybe even like Lion King and Mulan. Cars has been a huge hit. Do a ride where you sit in racing cars and the cars race around a track (something like test track). Grab the idea from the cruise ships and throw in a movie theater showing disney movies.
