Decline In Movie Attendance

On Friday - King kong ---> ($8.25 (tickets) x 2) + $13.00 (med. popcorn + medium soda + hot dog (ok, I was REALLY hungry) = $29.50 for 2 people.

Kinda' expensive, but not as much as eating out a any chain restaurant.

Lack of manners is my big pet peeve, so we mostly see movies on "off" times (& NEVER go to our local theater on friday night)

We only go to the movies when there is one out that I canno wait to see or prefer to see it on the big screen. I had to see War of the Worlds on a big screen. We go to the movies every couple of months it seems. I do end up bringing my own Junior Mints though. The theater we go to has the box of Junior Mints on display at the snack counter but do not carry them anymore! So for spite I bring my own! LOL!

we go to the movies at least once/week, so the loss of revenue isn't because of us! :rotfl:

we rarely buy concessions though.

All of the above. Trying to see LOTR: Two Towers when it first came out was a disaster. Since then, I've really cut back on the what I see at the movie theater. I only go to movies that have to be seen on the big screen (Star Wars, Spiderman, big summer block-buster type movies). "Smaller" movies (romances, comedies, etc.) I only see at home. I just signed up for Net Flix last week, and DH and I plan on buying a large screen tv in the next year, so we may never go to the movies again.

At home, there is no one talking, no one kicking the back of my chair, I can pause the movie to go to the bathroom or get more popcorn. We don't have to try to find parking and walk 1/2 a mile in all kinds of weather, wait in line to buy tickets, wait in line for food/drink, or have our feet stuck to the sticky theater floor.

For all of that, I'm willing to wait a few months until the movie is out on DVD.

I think the multiplex is dead...........I don't see a future for old-style movie theaters.
I guess I know I am getting old when the multiplex is referred to as 'old-style movie theaters', LOL. :teeth:

The last movie I saw in the theater was Harry Potter, Goblet of Fire. I do go to movies occasionally with friends, but really, the cost, the rudeness, and the movies themselves are just not appealing. So many movies now focus on glitzy effects rather than a storyline. Some of the movies I'd like to see never make it to the San Antonio metroplex area, for both political and social reasons, or they have a very short run.

For instance, Michael Moore's Farenheit 9-11 had ONE and only ONE showing here in Seguin before it was pulled because of "protests"...now do I believe everything in the movie verbatim? Of course not, but at least it was thought provoking.

I guarantee you Brokeback Mountain will never play here, the closest theater will be in Austin, about 100 miles and heavy traffic from here.

We still do the movies but no where near as much.

Now in the summer we hit the DRIVE-IN you still get a good deal sometimes 3 prime movies for 1 price .They also let you bring in your own food for a small fee

We go on occasion but it has to be a REALLY good movie. Our local theater is very old and was remodeled to have booth seating in the back and serves pizza. Only problem is of course the cost. We figure about $75 for four of us with a large pizza and drinks.

If it's not a movie I really want to see - we wait for the DVD. I'm not sure about King Kong so I'll probably wait. I did want to see Aeon Flux this weekend but nobody would go with me :confused3 So we rented Herbie, Dukes of Hazzard, and Fantastic 4

it is mostly prices for us. There are just very few movies that I want to see bad enough to pay the theatre price. DVDs come out so quick - I'm more than able to wait.

My teen son goes to movies with his girlfriend a couple times a month, but like they want to sit in my living room and watch the movie?? :rotfl2:

I have to say though, if they blocked cell phone service I definately wouldn't be there. I put my phone on vibrate, but I usually have a toddler at home with a babysitter. I don't feel comfortable being unreachable.

I know most people are supposed to have more time to go to movies during the holiday season, and that's why they release blockbusters during this time. I however never go to a movie this time of year. We usually are travelling, and if we do want to go, no way am I braving the crowd to try and find a parking spot at the mall.

During the rest of the year there are many times that there is simply nothing at the local theater we want to see. When we moved from Dallas to South Dakota we went from the big multiplex to a three screen theater. Not a lot to choose from.

We still go but the frequency has decreased significantly. It costs too much to put up with obnoxious behavior.
Strangely enough, the more movies cost the more obnoxious the behavior becomes.

I guess it is the same reason as they use for bad WDW behavior. I paid $$$ so I can do as I want.

I really don't think it has anything to do with price. People behave just as poorly at free concerts as they do at $100/ticket ones. Too many people have just lost all regard for other people. Manners and decorum are, unfortunately, a thing of the past.

We only go to movies that we REALLY want to see badly. Then we make sure we go to the early one so it isn't as expensive. Normally we are lucky and the other movie goers aren't rude. It is the expense for us.

around here anyways, if you go at off times there are hardly any rude people. actually, there are hardly any people at all. :rotfl:

I wish that were the case here. If it's not rude teens, then it's rude adults, or rude children, and if it's off hours during the day it's rude senior citizens out on a senior center day trip.

Last time we went to the movies as a family it costs more for the movie than it did for a dinner. (Movie and snacks). I refuse to pay those prices and then be aggravated by idiots that don't realize the world doesn't revolve around them. So I haven't been to an actual movie in almost 1 year. I will wait for the video release. PLUS, all the movies seem to be remakes...maybe an original idea would make me go.

I still go to the movies 1-2 times per month...but it's getting more difficult to find movies that you feel like you just HAVE to see.

Harry Potter always fits into that category for me...and so do Disney movies.
