Forgive me for asking so many questions :) However we are trying to pick a room before booking. It looks to me like the rooms on this deck would have those big lifeboats hanging over the verandah, is this the case?

No, on deck 6, the life boats were actually just under the verandah but did not obstruct the view at all. You could see down just fine. We have had deck 6 cabins twice and loved them.
:D

Hey thanks for the quick reply...so are there any rooms you recommend? ;) I am so new at this

We just cruised the eastern on 1/25 and had cabin 6074 which connects to cabin 6072. It is just aft of the midship elevators, on the port (?) or left side of the ship. The location was great and there were no rooms directly across from us. My dsis and dbil were in 6072 so we did not notice any noise from the connecting cabin. Being on deck 6 makes it convenient to reach all the other levels, only 3 up to the buffet, pools etc or 3 down to the nightlife. Do not miss dueling pianos with Jeff and Fidelio, they are the best!!!

We were in 6092 on the 1/25 Eastern, and I do have a comment. The room was great, good location etc. However, when we arrived, there was water pooled onto the verandah. I presume they washed off the side of the ship, and it didn't drain properly. I had heard somewhere on the board that this was a known design issue.

Anyway, we asked O'Dell (our cabin steward) to have it cleaned and it was taken care of the next day. However, on sail-away night, we had to use water shoes out there. No big deal, but every time we ran inside to get a drink etc. . we had to take the shoes off and place them on a towel so that would not get the carpert all wet.

They cleaned off the ship another time (?when we were in St. Martaan?) and the same thing happened. We had to ask O'Dell to have the verandah cleaned up again, but once again had the water out on the deck that night.

Just my two cents. That was the only negative and, depending on how much time you spend on the verandah, pretty minor.

Thanks for your help!! I am looking currently at a few rooms: 6074, 6090, and 6152. Can anyone tell me...is it better to have rooms across from you or no? I wondered if there were no rooms across, do people tend to gather there and make noise? Oh and 4cruisin, on 6074, did you have the verandahs with the plexiglass?

We've sailed twice in 6538 and LOVED it. Consider it "our" stateroom. Unfortunately it isn't available for our June cruise so we'll be in 6536 - my parents had that last time and it is also a great room. We like those staterooms a bit more forward. We found it relatively quiet and had great views from starboard side at the ports.

We liked the location also! There was plexiglas on our railing and we had the water on the floor issue also. Not a serious problem.

Jeff and Fidelio definitely rock! We were a fixture at the late dueling pianos on the 2/8/03 Eastern cruise.

Ok, no laughing...what is starboard? I am familiar with aft and forward, but no other terms! Which side of the ship is it better to be on, right or left?

thanks for your input, this is really helping!

When facing the forward, the port is on your left (remember they both have 4 letters, port/left) and the starboard is on your right. At least that's what I have been told, but I am not an experienced sailer by any means. I'm only taking my second cruise in June!

I guess another question I have is which side does the sun rise on? I realize this can vary since each cruise is different....but can anyone advise?

Let me explain that a little better, the port is the left side of the ship when you are on the ship facing forward and starboard is the right hand side. I din't make myself clear above that you are on the ship facing foward. Some one my get confused.

Have you considered ordering a passporter. I read about it on the board and ordered one and I love it. I am learning so much even after having been on one disney cruise. Here's the number to call 1-877-929-3273. You won't be disappointed. It will answer almost every question you have. It's written by folks who have taken lots of disney cruises.

I was going to but I wanted to get the room booked first. Perhaps I should reconsider.......

The lifeboats are located under the verandas, so you can't see them, unless you really try to. We were in room 6616, and the lifeboats didn't bother us one bit. I'd try to get a room on the starboard side (rooms which start sith 65 or 66). I found this to be the FAR better side. It seems lately the ships have been backing into Castaway Cay, and the starboard side is the side with the view of the family beach. Also, usually the port side (rooms which start with 60, 61) is the side on the docks at the various ports, giving a less than steller view in my opinion.

We were in 6094. Plexiglass verandah, easy for us to get around. it's halfway between the midship & aft elevators, which we liked. It only sleeps 3, as do the other cat 6s in that immediate area. If you need a quad, make sure that you are looking at those rooms!

We had nothing across the hall from us & thought that was good. I think it was part of the smokestack & the laundry room (door is on the other side of the ship).

We didn't get water on our verandah at all, so I guess they didn't clean them that week. :)

On the 1/24 sailing, we were in 6624 and had no problems with water on the balcony.

I don't think it really matters which side of the ship you are on, what you don't see going, you will see coming home.

I agree, DON'T MISS FIDELIO AND JEFF, the Dueling Pianos are a MUST!!!

That is not what I meant!!! LOL I know that

Thanks for all the info...one more thing...is there a size difference in the rooms which sleep three vs. four? They are all Category 6 so I didn't know.
