Deck 5 on Magic: Is it really "that bad"?

Hey, everyone!

Can I just tell you? I REALLY love this community. So very much. I currently work for another cruise line and cannot tell you how often each day I wish our brand had a resource like this to refer our guests to (or to get info from to make me sound way smarter than I actually am). Thank you all for making DIS such a great source of insight and info.

I would love some first-hand info from anyone who has sailed on the Magic and stayed in Staterooms on Deck 5 Aft. We have tons of anecdotal information, but I'd love to hear from someone who has actually done it.

I have heard tons of horror stories and cautionary tales about staying on the same deck as OC/OL but I have a hard time believing it's actually as chaotic as people make it sound. We're a two-SR family looking at booking a Verandah and Inside room on Deck 5 Aft Port Side. Any relevant feedback would be hugely helpful.

Thanks everyone!

I have stayed aft on Deck 5 several times and love it. I never had a horror story at all!!! I find it very convenient to the Buena vista Theater. My preferred deck is Deck 2 but Deck 5 is my next favorite. Aft is not very close to the kids clubs so I don't why that would be an issue.

I can tell you the verandahs aft of the Navigator verandas have the solid wall which goes up to your waist. Depending on which one you have it could be deeper than others. You can see the relative size of the verandahs at this deck plan site. Any verandah with an * after the cabin number has a solid wall verandah.

Hope this helps.

Just off the Magic last week and had 2 deck 5 aft rooms (starboard side) and this was our 12th disney cruise and the whole family thought it was the best location ever, even my picky teen lol! We would book them again every time we sailed on the Magic. It was very easy to use the stairs to go up or down and there were hardly any people in halls or waiting for elevators if you wanted to use them. Super quiet at night!

Thanks, everyone. I truly appreciate the info. I'm not as concerned about hearing the kids in the club from my room as much as I'm worried that kids- particularly those with self check priviliges- will be running around outside the clubs in the area where the rooms are. I've heard horror stories from people that they felt like there were kids everywhere, but I honestly felt like they were exaggerating at best and fabricating things at worst. Glad to hear the positive feedback. We're even more excited now if that was even possible. :)

Deck 5 aft is our favorite! We haven't had any issues with kids.

Our preferred deck is 5 - aft or forward! We like the sideways and secret porthole staterooms on 5 forward. We find deck 5 is quiet and convenient. Entrances to the kids clubs are at 5 midship, far away from staterooms.

We've never stayed on this deck but I've walked past the kid's clubs during the day many, many times and I've never seen kids milling about outside them. If they have check out privileges, I doubt that they hang around the club. They'll want to go on deck or somewhere else. After all, if they leave the club, why would they want to stay around there. In fact, I've rarely seen lots of kids on their own around anywhere other than the pool area. We're always amazed at how many children are on board as it doesn't really seem like that when you're walking around the ship.

That's such great news!!!! Thanks so much for the info. I had a feeling from reading the TRs that the folks who were complaining were kinda fussy, if you know what I mean. I'm really excited that y'all enjoyed the location. It seemed to me like it would be ideal, even when we were on the Wonder last summer. Glad to know it's a good spot.

I would definitely stay on Deck 5 again, no issues at all........

I always ask Dreams TA for 7A Deck 5 Aft because:

1. Deck 5 aft muster station is Animator's Palate (inside sitting at a table is better than deck 4 standing in line)
2. The only noise from below is Animato's Palate Dinner Shows.
3.There is not that much hall traffic compared to mid ship traffic.
4. Fresh Popcorn is close by at the start or every movie at the Buena Vista Theater.
5. Easy to get to 4 of the 5 restaurants.
6. You can get out of the sun on a Navigator Verandah.

We have stayed on Deck 5 forward. We were all over Deck 5 and it never seemed too crazy. My only complaint with our room was I could hear the sound from the late night movies in the theater below us.

We stayed on deck 5 on the Dream and loved it!! Not chaotic at all and had no issues with noise. I actually liked being that close to the kids clubs personally. It didn't take long to run our son down there and he was there a lot so it was actually pretty convenient!

See, that was my thinking as well. We have always stayed several decks up on board past cruises, and the chaos of navigating up and down the elevators at "high traffic" time to get the kiddos to and from their clubs has been harrowing, to say the least. I love the idea of taking the one kid we have who still needs to be checked in and out down the hall instead of down the elevators. :yay:

We have sailed the Magic three times on deck 5. We are two adults and if there had been any issue with children from the clubs we would have been out of there very quickly and not rebooked that deck. In saying that, I guess you have figured out that we had no problems and loved this deck. For us, it was the fact that there were so few cabins in the area, the traffic was minimal. We did not see any unsupervised children in the halls at all. I think you will be very happy with this deck.
