Having to decide between tent camping at FW or staying in a condo offsite. There are 6 of us and offsite or camping are the most budget friendly options.

Planning for the first week of December next year. Thoughts? Should the weather be mostly agreeable during that week? Also, not knowing what FP+ is going to be doing to offsite guests is another factor. Just want to make sure we're covered in that area!

This is something that is a new concept for us as far as Disney is concerned. I will take any and all thoughts and comments!

TIA!

If you are "campers" outside of WDW, I would definitely do the Fort. Staying onsite is great. I've stayed off site before (camping and hotel) and won't do it again.

As long as you already have the camping equipment and everyone is ok with camping, it is one of the cheapest ways to go. If you are not campers, do the condo. As great as the Fort is, I wouldn't want to make this my first experience camping and find out I hated it. No need to ruin a Disney trip because you discovered you hate camping.

Weather in early December should be perfect. Nice days, coolish nights for sleeping.

I'll second what Teamubr/Jim said.

If your family is already a camping family, I'd say go for it.

If not, I'd say do the condo thing but come over to the Fort on a pretty afternoon during your visit. You won't be able to swim but you can do just about everything else - take the little ones on a pony ride, maybe eat at Trails End or get some take out meals at TE (they have the "Giddy Up and Go" aka "GAG" which is a 10 piece fried chicken with sides, plastic silverware, paper plates, and 2 side dishes for $25. You would have to pay extra for drinks. There are picnic tables on the side porch to eat at).

Maybe rent a canoe and paddle the canals. Stay for the campfire/singalong with Chip & Dale and the movie if you can hang in there. Roast some marshmallows (the refreshment stand sells a smores kit for $10).

I guess what I'm saying is do the condo trip this time but visit the Fort and plant the seed for a future visit where maybe you stay at the Fort and rent a popup or a camper. Then the girls will LOVE camping and you'll be a hero. :groom:

And a fourth...if you're campers with your own gear and experience, then go for it! If not, I'd go condo.

Agree. If you do not currently Camp I would do the Condo this time. Now for a future trip do a couple of nights of tent camping at other places for no other reasons to make sure you have the right gear.

Thanks for all of the input guys! DH and I have both camped in the past (as in seriously roughing it!) but we haven't camped with the girls yet. I think that we will stick to the condo this time around and take some camping trips with them before the next Disney trip.

I think you are making the right decision with 4 young girls (in a tent) especially! Of course, I don't tent camp 'period', so I'm a little prejudiced! ;)

I admire the ones that do, but once was more than enough for me & dh years ago. Have a great time!

I second this! ^^. I am totally jealous of those who can "rough it" in a tent though ;)

{WARNING . . . WARNING . . . HIGHLY BIASED OPINION FORTHCOMING}
1) By all means, follow everyone else's advice.
2) DO THE FORT.
3) People say on-site resorts "keep/immerse you in the magic".
4) IMHO, The Fort is the ONLY place that truly does.
5) Besides
. . . it is true camping, even if staying in a cabin
. . . the only place where everyone says "hello" as they pass you
. . . it is easy to meet new people, versus passing people at a hotel/resort
. . . VERY easy for kids to find playmates, and then even go to parks with them
. . . you meet the same people daily at the general store and pools
{NOTICE, BIASED OPINION COMPLETED}
