Just curious what others would do in this situation.

We're heading out to DLR next month. (Well, California. We'll spend a couple days at DLR and doing LA before doing lots of other things.) My dd15 had one request, after staying in a cheesy motel in Williamsburg this spring: to stay at a Disney property. It ain't cheap.

So I'm waitlisted for the first 3 nights for a 1BR at VGC, up to 7 days before check-in (it would be 222 points for 4 nights, which is how long we're actually staying there, most likely). I'm also reserved for cash at DisneyLand DTD view Hotel for 4 nights ($1,800 with AAA discount). :faint: I was looking at the Disney collection today. If I decide at the last minute to switch my cash reservation to Disney Collection, it will cost 213 points. The price of my cash reservation is the same as if I'd rented my points for just under $9/point. Would you do it?

We have no firm plans for the use of these points. My two choices were to see about getting spring break at Vero Beach at the 7 month mark (thinking that might be :lmao:), or to go ahead and rent them through one of the websites that does that. (Mike's? Dan's? something like that)

Just curious, what would you all do?

I'd consider a value of approx $9 to be fine for using the points compared to the time spent renting - and assuming I didn't have another use myself. If you were to do that thru David's you are talking about approx $225 so you need to decide if that would be worth it to go thru renting rather than using. For me I'd use the points and have done so more than once to stay at the DL hotels.

Good luck with the waitlist b/c the 1BR's at VGC are great!! Reality though is with the Carsland opening VGC has been booked up for a long time for this summer and it will take some luck to get that room.

I would just use the points! They are there for your enjoyment! With that being said either hotel will be wonderful. We are long time visitors of the Disneyland Hotel. The Downtown Disney view is fantastic. I can't begin to tell you the memories I have of sitting in our room with the sliders open just listening to the noise of Disney! Have a fantastic time!!

Ok, you've convinced me. Well, not really convinced, more like affirmation! :cool1:

Next question: assuming that the waitlist for a 1BR doesn't come thru (hey, I'm usually pretty lucky, it could happen!), would you go for DisneyLand Hotel DTD view or Grand Californian, standard view? The points are virtually identical. Oh, wait, doesn't the Grand Californian have balcolnies? And the DLH has those cool headboards. Decisions, decisions.

(DD is 15, so the headboards aren't the magic they could have been. ;) )

Let me preface this and say that GC is one of my favorite hotels anywhere so you can guess which way I would lean. :goodvibes

But I enjoy the DLH too. The rooms are usually a little bigger and they are quite nice since the remodel. The pool area has the cool new slide but that may not matter much to your 15 yo either. In Dec I had a DTD view room there but without a balcony I didn't spend much time looking out and I did miss the ability to open the windows. The headboards are cool though even at my age! lol

The GC standard view should end up looking out towards the front of the resort and you'd probably see the PP or DLH across the road. If you do the Woods/Garden/Courtyard you should be in the courtyard area that the monorail runs thru. I had that in Feb and did spend a little time on the balcony time watching them go by.

I'd go for GC. It's so nice being that much closer to the parks. Your DD might enjoy the easier access to California Adventure.
